New roof snagging in Upper Kingston
We report on what we see with photos and plain descriptions. Any dispute about the work is between you and your roofer or builder. What we provide is an independent record of the roof’s condition. We don’t give repair cost estimates or decide who is at fault, but it does set out clearly what we found. We are frequently asked to look into gutters blocked by building debris and gutters or fascias damaged during the job, on flashings and valleys, ridges and verges and loft conversions and dormers.
Some older homes in villages like Upper Kingston are listed or sit in a conservation area. If so, re-roofing in different materials may need consent, so check with the council before work starts. Whether you’re buying or signing off new roofing, it’s worth knowing where you stand, as well as what condition the roof is in. There are about 500,000 listed buildings and around 10,000 conservation areas in England.
After the visit, you get a photo-illustrated written report, sent by email. It explains the condition of the new roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

Practical tips
Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out:
- Raise snags in writing with your roofer
- Check ceilings and the loft after heavy rain
- Agree snagging with your roofer at the start
- Check that gutters weren’t left full of offcuts
Once the work is finished, check the ceilings and loft after the next downpour. Raise any new signs of water with your roofer promptly.
Agree the snagging inspection with your roofer before the job starts. Everyone then knows what to expect and time is set aside for snags.
Roof by roof
Clay and concrete tiles
Interlocking tiles need to sit neatly in line. Any that look wrong go in the report.
Ridges, hips and verges
Verges are easy to get wrong, so we look at them carefully.
DIY checks: what’s safe
Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us as you book and it will help the survey.
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
What this survey can’t tell you
It is a careful look at the new roof, not the whole story. Its limits include:
- Parts of the roof we can’t see safely
- Pricing the remedial work
- Legal advice on your contract
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll recommend the right survey before booking. The full list of what we check.

FAQs for Upper Kingston
Do you carry out roof surveys in Upper Kingston?
Yes, Upper Kingston is within the area we cover. We survey roofs across London and South East England. Just phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and let us know about the property.
Is my home in Upper Kingston listed or in a conservation area?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?
Every survey is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?
Surveys run seven days a week. To arrange a date, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Not always. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. We use safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where applicable, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.
What’s the price of a snagging inspection?
Our packages start from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, with VAT included. Just call 07833 053749 or drop us an email for a price.
Do you get involved if the roofer disagrees with the report?
No. We report on what we see. A disagreement about the work is between you and them and our report gives you an independent record.
The survey, step by step
It is useful to start with what’s prompted the survey: a purchase, a leak, a storm, new work or simply peace of mind. That way we can focus on what matters to you. The visit usually takes between one and two hours for most homes, depending on how much new work there is to check. Older rural homes like those around Upper Kingston can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we cannot see is noted.
- We ask what work was done and when it was finished.
- The new coverings, ridge, hips and verges are inspected where it is safe to see them.
- Flashings, valleys, gutters and visible underlay at the eaves are looked at.
- Where it’s safe, we check the loft, then look for debris or damage left behind.
- You get a photo report listing the snags we found.
Getting ready for the survey
- For flats, check roof access has been agreed
- Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
Booking a survey

What else we do in Upper Kingston
New roof snagging around Upper Kingston
Historic houses like Avon Tyrrell House, about 2.6 miles south-east, show how far back building in the area around Upper Kingston goes. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Material and age explain a lot of what turns up on the day, whether the roof is old or brand new.
The streets around a church such as Trinity Congregational Church are often among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, the roof’s history matters as much as its looks, and a survey brings the past repairs to light.
