About our storm damage roof report in Daw's End
A storm damage roof report is an independent record of the damage to your roof after a storm. We record each area of damage, photograph it and note the likely cause. It is yours to pass to your insurer. Insurers decide claims on their own policy wording. We’re not loss adjusters, and we cannot tell you whether a claim will succeed. We survey chimney stacks, flat roofs and ridges and hips, and common reasons people get in touch are flat roof edges peeled back and slates and tiles blown off the roof.
Roofs in small places like Daw's End frequently stand in the open, so storms hit ridges, verges and chimneys hard. Damp in old stone, brick or timber walls is slow to dry out, which makes finding the cause quickly worthwhile. A record with photos is useful if you need to show the damage to anyone else.
The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Getting in touch
What helps most when you contact us:
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
- Dates you are working to, such as exchange
- The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
Photos help, if you have them. Pictures from the ground or a window are fine; never climb up to get a better view. To get started, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
DIY checks: what’s safe
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That part is for a survey.
It’s useful to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us when you book.
How it works
Every roof is different, but as a rough guide the survey takes roughly 1–2 hours at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. If you have questions on the day, just ask. Rural addresses near Daw's End can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- We start with what you’ve seen and any temporary repairs.
- We check inside, including the loft where there’s access, for water damage.
- The roof is inspected from the ground, windows and the roof where it is safe.
- We record fresh damage and older defects.
- You receive the written report with photographs.
Getting ready for the survey
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
- Keep pets in another room

Daw's End questions
Do you cover smaller places like Daw's End?
We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.
How do I find out if my home in Daw's End is listed?
We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Will you walk on the roof?
Not unless it’s safe. Safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where applicable cover most of what’s needed, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.
Will my insurer pay for an old roof?
Wear and tear is not normally covered. We describe what looks like fresh storm damage and what looks older. Your insurer decides the claim.
How long does the survey take?
That depends on the size and shape of the roof, but most surveys take about one to two hours at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. The written report follows by email.
Should I go up on the roof to take photos?
Please do not climb onto the roof. Photograph the damage from below or from a window. Record the date and any damage inside as well.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. It is a specialist roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 building survey. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.
Honest limits
It helps to know what a survey will not do before you book:
- A price for the repairs
- What your policy covers, which depends on its wording
- Acting for you with the insurer
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or email us and we will tell you. What a survey covers and does not.

Useful tips for Daw's End property owners
Most of what helps is simple and safe from the ground. Our suggestions:
- Keep any slates, tiles or debris that fall, if it’s safe to do so
- File receipts for anything you pay for
- Keep a note of the date of the storm
- Record any water damage in rooms and the loft
You’ll need a roofer’s quote for the repairs. The report gives them a clear list of the damage.
Check the roof from ground level after strong winds. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or lifted ridges. Never climb onto the roof yourself.

What else we do in Daw's End
Storm damage roof reports around Daw's End
Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Different coverings let water in at different points, which shapes where the search starts. Older buildings may be listed or sit in a conservation area. To find out, check Historic England’s list and ask the council about conservation areas. Re-roofing in different materials may need permission there.
For an older house near a landmark like Church of St George, the leak may come from a chimney, a valley or tired lead rather than the covering itself. If you look after a building such as Anstey First School, on a building that size, finding the source of a drip means looking well beyond the stain.

Why it is worth a survey now in Daw's End
Many policies expect damage to be reported promptly. Check the wording and tell your insurer as soon as you can. An independent report can follow. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Daw's End, driving rain gets into any weakness, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so the price reflects that. You will know the figure before booking.
