About our storm damage roof report in Felden

Storms tend to find the weak points on a roof. Slates and tiles slip or blow off, ridge and hip tiles lift, flashings pull away and flat roof coverings can tear. Falling branches can cause damage too. We record the damage on your roof and photograph each part. Any older wear we can see is recorded as well. We survey flat roofs, slate and tile slopes and chimney stacks, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are flashings pulled away from walls or stacks and ridge tiles that have come loose.

In older homes around places like Felden, the underlay may be old bitumen felt, or there may be none at all. Once the slates or tiles let water past, there’s little to stop it reaching the ceiling. Whether it is long-term wear or recent damage makes a difference to what happens next. In the loft, damp battens or wet insulation are frequently the first clues.

Report times depend on the survey you book: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

What we do, step by step

Every roof is different, but as a rough guide the survey takes about one to two hours for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. You are welcome to ask questions while we are there. With a bit of garden around a house, as there frequently is around Felden, the roof can be viewed from several angles. Mention any side of the property we cannot get to. Inside, the loft is looked at where it can be reached safely.

  1. We note the date of the storm and the damage you’ve seen.
  2. The roof is inspected from safe positions.
  3. We record and photograph the damage.
  4. The report notes whether the damage fits a storm, older wear or both.
  5. You get a written report to pass to your insurer.

How to prepare

  • Leave a clear route to the loft
  • Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
  • Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at

How we price storm damage roof reports

The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. The main factors are:

  • Height and safe access
  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
  • The roof’s overall size
  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets

A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package you pick makes a difference too. We will give you the figure before anything is booked.

What to let us know when you get in touch

When you call or email, these details help:

  • What made you get in touch
  • Where the property is, with the postcode
  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window

Photos help, if you have them. Pictures from ground level or a window are fine; never climb up to get a better view. To send them or to book, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Felden: your questions answered

Will you come out to Felden?

Yes, we do. Our area covers London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned ahead of time.

My home in Felden has a flat-roofed garage or porch. Is it worth having that looked at?

Frequently, yes, so mention it when booking. Flat-roofed garages and porches are common in new towns like Hemel Hempstead, and older felt coverings may be near the end of their life.

Should I go up on the roof to take photos?

Please don’t climb onto the roof. Photograph the damage from below or from a window. Record the date and any damage inside as well.

Does your report mean my claim will be accepted?

That is not something we can promise. The decision rests with your insurer and its policy. What we provide is an independent record of the damage.

How long will you be at the property?

It usually takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. We’ll confirm the timing when you book.

Do you act for me with my insurer?

No. We write an independent report, and you decide how to use it. The insurer may send a loss adjuster of its own.

Do you use drones?

Yes, where it’s applicable. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID and fly a drone under 250g, and every flight depends on the airspace and the weather.

What this survey can’t tell you

Some things cannot be seen without opening up the roof, so a survey has limits:

  • Areas we cannot see safely
  • Estimates of repair costs
  • A decision on your insurance claim

If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer before booking. What our survey covers.

Wind, rain and roofs in Felden

Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates, and flat-roofed additions turn up almost everywhere. Where water gets in depends a good deal on what the roof is made of and how it is detailed. Hemel Hempstead, which Felden is part of, is one of England’s post-war new towns. Homes from the post-war decades are common in the new towns, many with low-pitched roofs in concrete tiles and flat-roofed garages or porches. Leaks on homes like these often come from flat-roofed additions or from rain driven up under low-pitched tiles.

Take an older house close to Church of St Mary: lead flashings, valleys and old chimneys are typical places for water to get in. For landlords with property near Apsley station, a tenant living with a leak needs the cause found, not just the stain painted over.

Felden is about 2 miles south of Hemel Hempstead, in Hertfordshire. Surveys in Felden work the same way as everywhere we cover: a careful look at everything that’s safely in view, photos and a clear written report. Do you need a storm damage roof report in Felden?

Landlords and building managers often need a written record after a storm. It helps when explaining damage to a building owner or insurer.

Things that frequently lead to a survey include:

  • Slates and tiles blown off the roof
  • Torn or lifted flat roof coverings
  • Loose or torn flashings
  • Ridge tiles that have come loose

For site and facilities teams at buildings like Nash Mills Church of England Primary School, a leak through a large roof is frequently found some distance from where the water shows inside.

Before booking anyone

  • When you will get the report
  • Are they insured for the work?
  • Whether the loft is part of the inspection
  • Which viewpoints they use to see the roof

What a good roof survey covers

Landlord and commercial surveys in Felden

For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan, with the most urgent items set out first.

If you own several properties, you can book surveys for several addresses. To discuss a number of properties, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Why get it checked now?

Your policy may say how quickly you need to report damage. Check the wording and tell your insurer as soon as you can. Our report can then add a clear record. In an older home around Felden, water from a roof defect can get into timber and plaster, which is far harder to put right than the roof fault itself.

Prices start from £150, including VAT. Basic starts from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, VAT included, and we can help you choose.
