What affects the price in Waterdale
We confirm the price for your roof before you book. These are the things that affect it:
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
- The size of the roof
- Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
Prices quoted always include VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Our price is from £150, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.
Getting in touch
There is no need for technical words. Just tell us:
- Anything about access we should know
- The reason for the survey, like buying, a leak or storm damage
- Where water is showing inside, if it is
- The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
Not sure which survey you need? The easiest way is to ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and describe the roof and why you want it surveyed. We’ll talk you through the options and what they cost.
How a storm damage roof report works in Waterdale
Many policies treat gusts of about 55 mph as storm conditions, but it varies by policy. Your policy document sets out its own definition. We do not decide whether a storm met that test. We record the damage and what seems to have caused it. Each area of damage is photographed, and the report is yours to pass on. The claim decision rests with your insurer. If you’ve noticed broken or displaced guttering and gaps where slates or tiles have gone, we can find out what’s behind it, on ridges and hips, slate and tile slopes and flashings alike.
For a small place like Waterdale, the inspection is the same as anywhere: we simply plan the journey and access ahead. Tell us where the water shows, when it appears and anything you’ve noticed outside, along with any repairs done before. Photographs of the stain and of the roof from outside are helpful too.
The written findings come by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24–48 hours and Premium on the day.

Honest limits
Before booking, it’s worth knowing what a survey will not do:
- Damage hidden under coverings or inside the structure, without opening up
- Estimates of repair costs
- What your policy covers, which depends on its wording
If you’re not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer. What a survey covers and does not.
Roof types and parts we check
- Gutters and fascias
- Chimney stacks
- Ridges and hips
- Flat roofs
- Flashings
- Slate and tile slopes
Should I look at the roof myself first?
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey.
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it.
The survey, step by step
Every roof is different; as a rough guide, the survey takes about 1–2 hours at most homes, or half a day or so for a commercial building. If you have questions on the day, just ask. Around Waterdale, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so let us know about the loft hatch and any ladder. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- We note the date of the storm and the damage you’ve seen.
- The roof is inspected from safe positions.
- We record and photograph the damage.
- We note the likely cause and any signs of older wear.
- We send you the report by email for your insurer.
Before we arrive
- Keep pets out of the way during the survey
- Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared
Booking a survey
Getting a price is simple: just call 07833 053749 or use the contact form, let us know about the property and we’ll explain which survey suits. The price is agreed up front.
Advice
Waterdale roofs and the weather
Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates, and flat-roofed additions turn up almost everywhere. The covering and its details give the first clues when tracing where water is coming from. With High Elms Manor about 0.5 miles south-west, Waterdale sits in an area with a long building history. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters.
If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for example near Charter Place, finding where water is getting in quickly keeps disruption down. Trees in and around Woodside Playing Fields shed leaves that can end up in nearby gutters, and blocked gutters overflow and soak walls. Take a building like Parmiter's School: a leak through a large roof is often found some distance from where the water shows inside.

Your questions about storm damage roof reports in Waterdale
Will you come out to Waterdale?
We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Waterdale?
For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
My storm claim was turned down. What now?
Raise it with your insurer first. If it isn’t resolved, the Financial Ombudsman Service may be able to help. The Ombudsman looks at whether there were storm conditions, whether the damage fits a storm and whether the storm was the main cause.
What if the roof was already worn?
Most policies do not cover wear and tear. We note both storm damage and older defects, so you know what the roof shows. How the policy applies is up to your insurer.
Do you need to get into the loft?
If the survey needs it and the loft space can be reached safely, yes. A clear path to the hatch helps, and if the loft cannot be reached safely, the report says so.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. We look at the roof, not the whole building, and it isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. It can sit alongside a RICS survey if you want both.
Does someone need to be in?
That depends on the survey. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in; we’ll agree the details when booking.
Why it is worth a survey now in Waterdale
Knowing whether older wear played a part helps you understand your position. Our report gives an honest view of both, so there are no surprises later. For older village homes like those around Waterdale, the right replacement materials aren’t always easy to find quickly. That’s one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.
