FAQs for Waterdale

Is Waterdale within the area you cover?

Yes, we do. We survey roofs across London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Is Waterdale in the area you cover?

We do. Every survey there gets the same written report with photographs, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.

How soon after the work should I book a snagging inspection?

Before the final payment is best, while the roofer is still on hand. Otherwise, book before your defects or warranty period runs out.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Not unless it’s safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where applicable, a drone, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. Asbestos surveys and sampling are not something we do. Where a material might contain it, like old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it.

Can you see the fixings under the tiles?

No. We inspect what can be seen without opening up the roof, so fixings under the coverings can’t be checked. The report says what could and couldn’t be seen.

What’s the best way to book?

To book, call 07833 053749 or send us an email and tell us the address and what you need to know. We will confirm the price and find a day that suits.

New roof snagging in Waterdale: what you get

A new roof is a big spend, so it makes sense to check the work before you pay the final bill. We look for snags, faults and anything left unfinished on the new roof and around it. The findings go into a written report with photos to share with your roofer. We are independent of the roofer who did the job. Typical surveys look at gutters blocked by building debris and gutters or fascias damaged during the job, on loft conversions and dormers, replacement roofs and ridges and verges.

For a small place like Waterdale, the visit is planned like any other: the journey, parking and access are simply agreed ahead of time. If there are outbuildings with roofs you want checked, mention them as you book, so the visit can be planned around them. Whether you are buying or checking new work, the same care goes into it. Weekday and weekend visits are both available.

Findings are set out part by part, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, with a note and a photo for each point. You will see the good as well as the bad.

How the survey changes by roof type

Flashings

Loose or badly dressed flashings are a common snag. They’re recorded with photos.

Underlay and ventilation

From the loft, we check the underlay and look for condensation.

What happens on the day

The aim of the visit is simple: to see as much of the new roof as can be seen safely and record it clearly. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. The visit normally takes an hour or two for a house, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. For a village or hamlet like Waterdale, the journey is planned beforehand: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it is safe.

  1. We ask what work was done and when it was finished.
  2. The coverings, ridges, hips and verges are checked as far as can safely be seen.
  3. We check valleys, flashings and gutters, and the underlay at the eaves where it is visible.
  4. Where it’s safe, we check the loft, then look for debris or damage left behind.
  5. You get a photo report listing the snags we found.

What a survey costs

Prices always include VAT. The things that change the price are:

  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
  • Building height and the viewpoints available
  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own

To find out what your survey will cost, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and let us know about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.

What to let us know when you contact us

Getting the details right at the start saves time. It helps to include:

  • Any photos you have, taken from the ground or a window
  • Whether there’s a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
  • The property’s address and postcode
  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside

A quick phone call is typically the easiest start: call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll ask a few questions about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.

Do you need new roof snagging in Waterdale?

Flashings are a common source of snags. If they’re poorly dressed or fixed, water can get in sooner rather than later.

Things that often lead to a survey include:

  • Debris left in gutters or valleys
  • Missing or blocked roof ventilation
  • Underlay ending short at the eaves
  • Tiles or slates sitting out of line

The streets around a church like Church of All Saints are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, ask the seller about past roof repairs, because older roofs often have patched valleys, replaced slates and reset ridges.

What to check before booking

  • Their track record with similar roofs
  • Is VAT included in the price?
  • Which limits apply to the survey
  • Their drone registration, if they fly one

Waterdale homes and their roofs

About 0.5 miles south-west lies High Elms Manor, a reminder of how long the area around Waterdale has been built on. If you own one of the older houses, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles, and flat-roofed additions turn up almost everywhere. For a purchase or a newly finished roof, the materials decide which details matter most.

If you let a flat or house near Bricket Wood station, a written report helps before buying a rental or paying for a new roof on one.

What you can safely check yourself

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That’s where a survey comes in.

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.

Why it’s worth a survey now in Waterdale

Defects and warranty periods have an end date. Checking the roof before it ends gives you time to raise anything we find. Older cottages and farmhouses around Waterdale can have roof timbers that have been there a very long time, and water through a failed covering can rot timber if it’s left.
