Battlesbridge Thermal Roof Survey

Thermal roof survey in Battlesbridge: what you get

Your report sets out the thermal images alongside ordinary photographs, making it clear where on the roof each pattern is. We explain what each pattern may mean, what the moisture readings found and what we recommend. Premium reports are sent the same day. You can talk the findings through with us at the in-person consultation. A follow-up 12 months later is included too. If you’ve noticed leaks far from where the stain appears and areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions, we can find out what’s behind it, on insulated roof spaces, flat roofs and ceilings below the roof alike.

In a village or hamlet like Battlesbridge, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

It isn’t only a list of defects. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend, so you can plan your next steps.

What we are asked to look at in Battlesbridge

After a repair, some owners want to know whether the roof has dried out. Thermal images and moisture readings can suggest whether moisture is still trapped when the conditions on the day are suitable.

Signs worth acting on include:

  • Water getting in at parapets and stacks
  • Ceilings that feel colder in places
  • Water that travels before it shows
  • Damp that repairs haven’t cured

If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near Church of St Nicholas, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

Before booking any roof surveyor

  • Whether the inside of the roof is included
  • Are they insured for the work?
  • How long they’ve been surveying roofs
  • Will the report include photos?

What to expect from a roof survey

Honest limits

Every survey has limits, and it’s better to know them up front. Bear these in mind:

  • Insulation values or heat loss calculations
  • Proving moisture from the images alone
  • Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will tell you. What our survey covers.

What this survey covers

  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Commercial roofs
  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Flat roofs
  • Loft conversions
  • Insulated roof spaces

Roof by roof

Pitched slate and tile roofs

Even on pitched roofs, the camera can point to heat loss and some damp. We explain what can and cannot be read from them.

Loft insulation

Loft insulation is easily disturbed when people store things or run cables. Thermal images can show where it has been pushed aside.

Prices for thermal roof surveys in Battlesbridge

The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. The main factors are:

  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
  • Height and safe access
  • Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details

A Basic Survey starts from £150, inc. VAT. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400. We confirm the exact price before booking.

What to tell us when you contact us

If you can, have these to hand when you contact us:

  • The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window

Our phone lines are open seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays. To book or ask a question, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.

DIY checks: what’s safe

Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Photograph them and note the date, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.

Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.

What we do, step by step

The visit usually starts outside and finishes in the loft: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the roof space where it can be reached. All told, expect an hour or two for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. Older roofs in small places like Battlesbridge can have low, tight loft spaces, so tell us about the loft hatch and any ladder. We only go where it’s safe.

  1. You let us know about the roof and any damp, leaks or cold rooms.
  2. We check the conditions and note how they may affect the images.
  3. A full inspection and thermal imaging are carried out together.
  4. Moisture readings are used to check what the camera shows.
  5. The Premium report reaches you the same day, and we go through it with you in person.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Leave a clear route to the loft
  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
  • Tell us about parking before the day

Battlesbridge questions

Do you carry out roof surveys in Battlesbridge?

Yes. We work right across London and the South East, and Battlesbridge is part of that. Just call 07833 053749 or send us an email and let us know about the property, and we will talk through which survey suits.

Is my home in Battlesbridge listed or in a conservation area?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.

Can you inspect my roof with a drone?

Where it helps and it’s safe, yes. Whether we can fly on the day depends on the weather and the airspace rules, and we check for restrictions near airports before flying. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID.

Is thermal imaging good for finding leaks?

It’s a useful tool for tracing leaks, but not the only one. The results depend on conditions on the day. If the source cannot be confirmed, we will say what could help next, such as electronic leak detection.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes, as long as access is agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is often shared, so we need permission from the freeholder or managing agent. We inspect only the parts we are allowed to reach.

Is thermal imaging included in your surveys?

Our Premium Survey, from £400, includes thermal imaging. An in-person consultation and a follow-up 12 months later are included too. For bigger commercial roofs, we quote on size.

Do you take photos of the roof?

Yes, plenty. Each finding is shown in a picture where possible, which makes the report easy to follow.

Where the drone is part of the survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. Clay tiles and timber weatherboarding mark out many of the older buildings in Essex, with post-war and more recent estates making up much of the newer housing. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that’s where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place.
