What you can safely check yourself

It’s useful to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry and it will help the survey.

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Do not go up yourself.

Thermal roof survey in Bures Green: what you get

We present each thermal image next to a normal photo of the same area, making it clear where on the roof each pattern is. We explain what each pattern may mean, what the moisture readings found and what we recommend. Premium reports are sent the same day. You can talk the findings through with us at the in-person consultation. There is a 12-month follow-up as well. If you’ve noticed possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering and damp around chimneys and parapets, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.

Somewhere as small as Bures Green, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Weather and airspace are checked before the visit, and the journey is planned ahead of time. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

The report is written in plain words, so you do not need to be a roofer to follow it. Each point is backed by a photo where possible, with the urgent items made clear.

Thermal roof surveys in Bures Green: local notes

If the drone is used for your survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. Weatherboarded walls and clay tile roofs are typical of older Essex buildings, with post-war and more recent estates making up much of the newer housing. Steep or complicated roofs are frequently hard to see from ground level, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

Historic houses such as Gainsborough's House, about 4.5 miles north-west, show how far back building around Bures Green goes. Photos from the air and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it. Take an older house close to Church of St Mary the Virgin: thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image. If you look after a building such as Bures Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Your questions about thermal roof surveys in Bures Green

Is Bures Green in the area you cover?

Yes, Bures Green is within the area we cover. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Just ring 07833 053749 or email us and let us know about the property.

Do you cover smaller places like Bures Green?

Yes, Bures Green is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.

Does someone need to be in?

It depends on what we need to see. For inside areas and the roof space, someone has to give us access.

Will thermal imaging find my leak?

It is a useful tool for tracing leaks, but not the only one. The results depend on conditions on the day. Where it cannot be pinned down, the report suggests a next step, like electronic leak detection.

Will you walk on the roof?

Only when it is safe. Safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where applicable cover most of what’s needed, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

Surveys run seven days a week. To arrange a date, call 07833 053749 or email us.

What can thermal imaging tell me about my roof?

A thermal camera shows differences in surface temperature. Those patterns can point to trapped moisture, missing insulation or heat loss. We check what it shows with moisture readings.

What this survey cannot tell you

It’s a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. The main limits are:

  • Confirming water without moisture readings
  • A structural engineer’s assessment
  • The condition of timbers we can’t see

If you’re not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking. What a survey covers and does not.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Flat roofs
  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Commercial roofs
  • Loft conversions

How it works

The visit usually starts outside and finishes in the loft: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the loft space where it can be reached. In total, it takes between one and two hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. Cottages and farmhouses around Bures Green often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.

  1. We talk through the roof, any damp or leaks, and the weather expected on the day.
  2. We look at the roof from ground level, from windows and from the roof itself where it’s safe.
  3. We take thermal images of the roof to pick up temperature patterns.
  4. Any patterns of interest are checked with moisture readings where we can reach them.
  5. The report sets out the images, what they suggest and what we recommend.

What we look for on each type of roof

Single-ply and EPDM roofs

Single-ply PVC, TPO and EPDM roofs are frequently laid over insulation boards. Wet boards can show as temperature differences on the images.

Parapets, valleys and junctions

Water often gets in where roofs meet walls, parapets or valley gutters. The camera can help show damp around these junctions.
