Glyndebourne Thermal Roof Survey
We take a careful look at the roof at your property in Glyndebourne, with photographs and a written report.
- Areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions
- Damp around chimneys and parapets
- Areas of a flat roof that may hold water
What happens on the day
Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, such as when any problem began and what work has been done before. Then the inspection itself takes about one to two hours at most homes, and more on a big or complicated roof. Around Glyndebourne, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so tell us about the loft hatch and any ladder. We only go where it’s safe.
- We start with the roof, its history and any signs of damp or heat loss.
- The weather and surface conditions are recorded.
- We inspect the roof and take thermal images during the same visit.
- We back up the thermal patterns with moisture readings.
- You get the report the same day, with an in-person consultation to follow.
How to prepare
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
- Note where any stains or damp appear
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at

Thermal roof survey in Glyndebourne: what you get
A thermal imaging roof survey uses a thermal camera to show differences in surface temperature across a roof. The patterns can suggest wet insulation, gaps in insulation or places where heat is getting out. It is important to know that the camera shows temperature, not water, so we check what it shows with moisture readings. Thermal imaging is included in our Premium Survey, from £400. The report also notes the conditions on the day, since they affect what the camera can show. Typical surveys look at moisture around outlets and upstands and missing or slipped insulation, across pitched roof slopes, flat roofs and insulated roof spaces.
Some older homes in villages like Glyndebourne are listed or in a conservation area. A look by drone or thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof, before anyone decides what work it needs. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. You will know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t.

What this survey cannot tell you
It is a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. The main limits are:
- Seeing water directly, as the camera shows temperature, not moisture
- Hidden layers that need to be opened up to check
- A structural engineer’s assessment

What a thermal roof survey looks like in Glyndebourne
In Sussex, older roofs are frequently handmade clay tile, frequently with tile-hanging on the walls below. A few old Sussex buildings still carry heavy Horsham stone slabs, and the county’s older buildings include oast houses and Wealden hall houses. Many roofs like these cannot be judged properly from the pavement, and that’s where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place. Historic houses such as Glyndebourne, about 0.1 miles north-west, show how far back building in the area around Glyndebourne goes. If you own one of the older houses, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof.
Take an older house close to St Mary's Church: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that’s where a view by drone or thermal camera helps. If you look after a building such as Ringmer Primary and Nursery School, big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once.

Can I check my roof myself?
What you can’t do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
FAQs for Glyndebourne
Will you come out to Glyndebourne?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work right across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.
Do you cover Glyndebourne?
We do. Every survey there gets the same written report with photos, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.
Can thermal imaging show missing insulation?
Gaps and thin areas of insulation can show up on the camera. The difference is clearest when the building is heated and it is colder outside. Where we can reach the loft safely, we check there too.
How long is the visit?
Expect it to take between one and two hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. The written report follows by email, on the timescale of your package.
Can you survey at the weekend?
Surveys run on any day of the week. To arrange a date, call 07833 053749 or email us.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first, with whoever owns or manages the building. Tell us about it when you book and we will plan the survey around it.
Does someone need to be in?
Not necessarily. If we only need the outside, we can agree that in advance, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.

How we price thermal roof surveys
All our prices include VAT. The things that change the price are:
- The height of the building and how the roof can safely be seen
- Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
- The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
- How big the roof is
Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where it applies) come with the Premium Survey, which starts from £400, with VAT included. We can help you choose the package that fits what you’d like to know.
What we need to know
We’ll normally ask about:
- Whether there is a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
- Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
- Where the property is, with the postcode
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
To book a survey, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and what you’d like to know about the roof. You will know the price before anything is booked.
Different roofs, different checks
Loft insulation
The difference is clearest when the home is heated and it’s cold out. Our report notes how the conditions affected the images.
Parapets, valleys and junctions
Damp at junctions can be hard to see by eye. A careful visual inspection goes alongside the images.
