Thermal roof survey in Housham Tye
Our Premium Survey, from £400, brings together a full roof inspection and thermal imaging. It also includes a drone inspection where applicable, a structural analysis and a same-day report. There is an in-person consultation as well, plus a follow-up 12 months later. You can call 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and a note of what you’ve noticed. For big commercial roofs, we quote on size and access. We survey ceilings below the roof, pitched roof slopes and commercial roofs, and people most frequently book us about damp that repairs haven’t cured and damp around chimneys and parapets.
Somewhere as small as Housham Tye, older roofs are frequently steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Weather and airspace are checked ahead of the visit, and the journey is planned in advance. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
The report doesn’t just list problems. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend, so you can plan your next steps.

Why it’s worth a survey now in Housham Tye
Buyers get extra information from thermal images that the eye can miss. Finding hidden moisture before exchange gives you facts to raise with the seller. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Housham Tye, driving rain gets into any weakness, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.
A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package matters as well. The price is always agreed first.

Once we’ve finished looking, we write up our findings as a photo-illustrated written report, emailed to you. Housham Tye: your questions answered
Will you come out to Housham Tye?
We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.
How do I find out if my home in Housham Tye is listed?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
Will the survey show heat loss through my roof?
Gaps and thin areas of insulation can show up on the camera. It shows most clearly when it’s warm inside and cold outside. We look from the loft as well, where there’s safe access.
Can you do a thermal survey in any weather?
Conditions on the day have a big effect on what the camera can show. Dry, calm weather after some sun gives the best chance of clear images. We record the conditions in the report, so you know how much weight to give the images.
Do I need to be at home?
It depends on what we need to see. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in, while outside access can be discussed when you book.
How long will you be at the property?
That depends on the size and shape of the roof; most visits take about one to two hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. The report is sent afterwards by email.
What insurance do you have?
Every survey is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, and we can provide details if a managing agent needs them.
Tips from our surveys
Most of what helps is simple and safe from ground level. Our suggestions:
- Keep outlets and gutters clear to stop water sitting
- Do not switch the heating off before the visit
- Keep the report to compare against after any repair
- Keep a record of when stains appear
Where a pattern can’t be confirmed, the report says what could help, for example electronic leak detection or a roofer opening up a small section.
Check loft insulation covers the whole area and hasn’t been disturbed. Gaps often appear after work in the loft.
Surveys for landlords and agents in Housham Tye
Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. Reports are emailed, so they’re easy to pass on.
For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait, which helps when budgeting.
What affects the cost of thermal roof surveys
Several things affect the price of a survey:
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
- The shape of the roof and its details
- The size of the roof
- Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
There are three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, all including VAT. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you’d like to know.
Helping us price your survey
When you call or email, these details help:
- Access details, like a loft hatch or a shared roof
- What made you get in touch
- Dates you’re working to, like exchange
- Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window
When you are ready to go ahead, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email. We’ll suggest a package, agree the price and find a date, weekday or weekend.
Can I check my roof myself?
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
You can learn a lot from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.
What a thermal roof survey looks like in Housham Tye
In Essex, older buildings are frequently clay-tiled, many with weatherboarding, with post-war and more recent estates making up much of the newer housing. Steep or complicated roofs are frequently hard to see from ground level, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help. If the drone is used for your survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.
Take a building like Mark Hall School: thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. Historic houses such as Barrington Hall, about 4.8 miles north-east, show how far back building around Housham Tye goes. For older roofs nearby, a look from the air or with a thermal camera is a hands-off way to check condition.
