Thermal Roof Survey in Hyde Heath
Thermal roof surveys in Hyde Heath, backed by more than 20 years’ experience. Every survey ends with a written report and photographs.
- Leaks that are hard to trace
- Wet insulation beneath the membrane
- Patches of heat loss across the roof
About our thermal roof survey in Hyde Heath
Thermal imaging can also show where a roof is losing heat. Gaps in loft insulation and poorly insulated areas can stand out on the images. The difference shows most clearly when it is warm inside and cold outside. The report shows the images and explains what they may mean. We do not give energy ratings or heat loss calculations. We survey loft conversions, ceilings below the roof and flat roofs, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are damp patches with no obvious cause and moisture around outlets and upstands.
In a village or hamlet like Hyde Heath, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
After the visit, you get a written report with photographs, emailed to you. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

Leave it or get it looked at?
Thermal images can suggest the extent of wet areas without cutting into the roof. It helps when deciding whether to patch an area or replace the roof. In a place like Hyde Heath, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. It’s worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.
Every price we give includes VAT. Our price is from £400, including VAT. We confirm the price for your survey before booking.

- Independent findings on the roof’s condition
- 20+ years’ experience

What a survey costs
What a survey costs depends on the time and equipment it needs. The main factors are:
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
- Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how it can be reached and seen safely. Thermal roof survey starts from £400, including VAT.
What to tell us when you contact us
To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
- What made you get in touch
- Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
We confirm the exact price before booking, so you know the cost up front. Prices start from £400, including VAT. For a price for your roof, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
Should I look at the roof myself first?
A lot can be seen from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.
Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground.
The survey, step by step
When we arrive, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you’d like to know. After that, we look at everything we can see safely, from ground level, from windows, in the roof space and by drone where applicable. The survey typically takes about one to two hours at a typical home, or half a day or so for a commercial building. Cottages and farmhouses around Hyde Heath frequently have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can be seen safely.
- First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
- Thermal images are taken across the roof and, where there is safe access, in the loft.
- Patterns that stand out are checked with moisture readings.
- Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.
Before we arrive
- Find any records of previous roof work
- Let us know about parking near the property
- Check pets are kept safely away

Questions from Hyde Heath
Is Hyde Heath in the area you cover?
We do. Every survey there gets the same written report with photos.
Do you cover smaller places like Hyde Heath?
Yes, Hyde Heath is covered. We survey roofs across London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
What will the report tell me?
It explains what we saw, what it means and what we’d suggest, with photos throughout. Anything we couldn’t see safely is noted too, so you know exactly what was covered.
Do you use drones?
Yes, where applicable and safe. We are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID), flying a sub-250g drone. It is included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where applicable, the Premium Survey.
What can thermal imaging tell me about my roof?
The images show how warm or cool each part of the surface is. Unusual patterns can point to trapped water, gaps in insulation or heat escaping, which we then check with moisture readings.
How many surveys have you done?
We’ve been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have completed over 5,000 surveys across London and South East England.
Which survey includes thermal imaging?
It’s part of the Premium Survey, from £400. You also get an in-person consultation and a 12-month follow-up. Larger commercial roofs are quoted for their size.
What a thermal roof survey does not cover
This is not a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:
- Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer
- Hidden layers that need to be opened up to check
- Proving moisture from the images alone
If you’re not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will give you a straight answer before you book. What a survey covers and doesn’t.
What this survey covers
- Ceilings below the roof
- Flat roofs
- Pitched roof slopes
- Commercial roofs
- Loft conversions

Useful tips for Hyde Heath property owners
Nothing here needs a ladder. A few suggestions:
- Clear leaves from outlets and gutters each autumn
- Keep a record of when stains appear
- Photograph damp patches with the date
- Leave the roof to people with safe access
You can pass the report to a roofer so they can see where the problem areas seem to be. Because the images are paired with photos, it’s easy to find each area on the roof.
After repairs or a new covering, a later survey can confirm things are dry in suitable weather.
Thermal roof surveys around Hyde Heath
Thatch survives on some older buildings in Buckinghamshire’s villages. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up photos from the air and thermal images help. Historic houses such as Cholesbury Manor House, about 4.4 miles north, show how far back building in the area around Hyde Heath goes. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.
Take a building like Hyde Heath Infant School: big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once. Take an older house close to Parish church of Saint John the Baptist: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help.
