Thermal roof survey in Tye Green

A thermal imaging roof survey uses a thermal camera to show differences in surface temperature across a roof. The patterns can suggest wet insulation, gaps in insulation or places where heat is getting out. It is important to know that the camera shows temperature, not water, so findings are checked with moisture readings. It comes as part of our Premium Survey, from £400. The report also notes the conditions on the day, since they affect what the camera can show. Common reasons to book are areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions and leaks far from where the stain appears, on commercial roofs, flat roofs and pitched roof slopes.

Villages like Tye Green frequently stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

It isn’t only a list of defects. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, so you can decide what to do next.

Checking the roof from ground level

You can learn a lot from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.

Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

How the survey changes by roof type

GRP fibreglass roofs

Water under a GRP roof can reach the timber deck. The camera can help show where to look.

Parapets, valleys and junctions

Damp at junctions can be hard to see by eye. A careful visual inspection goes alongside the images.

Practical tips

Most of what helps is simple and safe from the ground. Our suggestions:

  • Talk to us about the weather when booking
  • Keep the heating on as usual before a heat loss survey
  • Keep the report to compare against after any repair
  • Keep a record of when stains appear

You can pass the report to a roofer so they can see where the problem areas seem to be. Because the images are paired with photos, it’s easy to find each area on the roof.

Deal with small splits and lifted seams promptly. Once water gets under a membrane, it can travel far before it appears inside.

Tye Green questions

Is Tye Green in the area you cover?

Yes, Tye Green is one of the places we work. The survey and report are the same in Tye Green as anywhere else, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.

Is Tye Green within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work right across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

We survey seven days a week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Just tell us the days that suit you.

How much does a thermal roof survey cost?

Thermal imaging is included in our Premium Survey, from £400. The Premium Survey also covers a full inspection, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and a report on the same day.

What conditions are best for thermal imaging?

Conditions on the day affect the results. It works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof surface and little wind. Rain, wind and heavy cloud can weaken the patterns, so we talk through the forecast as you book.

Will I get photos?

Yes. Photographs are taken throughout the survey, and the report uses them to show each finding alongside our recommendations.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. We can flag materials that might contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.

Signs you need a thermal roof survey in Tye Green

Buyers sometimes want more than a visual look at the roof. A Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, a drone inspection where applicable and a same-day report, which suits a purchase that is moving quickly.

We’re often asked to look at:

  • Possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering
  • Damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys
  • Gaps in loft insulation
  • Moisture around outlets and upstands

Take a building like Wimbish Primary School: thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Questions to ask before booking

  • How much experience they have with roofs like yours
  • How they plan to inspect the roof safely
  • What the report includes, and whether it has photos
  • How soon the report will arrive

What a roof survey includes

What happens on the day

The aim of the visit is simple: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. The visit normally takes roughly 1–2 hours for a house, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. Somewhere as small as Tye Green, access is often the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. We talk through the roof, any damp or leaks, and the weather expected on the day.
  2. We carry out a visual inspection of the roof from wherever it can safely be seen.
  3. We take thermal images of the roof to pick up temperature patterns.
  4. We check the patterns that stand out with moisture readings where there is safe access.
  5. You get a report with thermal images, photos and our recommendations.

How to prepare

  • Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • Note where any stains or damp appear

Why act early in Tye Green

Heat lost through a roof costs money every winter. Thermal images can show where insulation is missing or has slipped, so improvements can go where they’re needed. Outbuildings and barns around Tye Green are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. It is worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.

Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so the price reflects that. You’ll know the figure before booking.
