About our thermal roof survey in West Bergholt
Thermal imaging is part of our Premium Survey, which starts from £400. You also get a drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and a report on the same day. An in-person consultation and a 12-month follow-up are included too. To book, just call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and what you’ve noticed. Larger commercial roofs are quoted for their size. We survey pitched roof slopes, flat roofs and commercial roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are damp around chimneys and parapets and stains that keep coming back.
Around West Bergholt, plenty of roofs are low enough to see partly from the garden or the street. Chimney tops, valleys and rear slopes are where close-up or thermal images help most. Both depend on the weather on the day, as calm, dry conditions suit both. Close-up images often show wear on ridges, verges and flashings that cannot be judged properly from the ground.
Findings are set out part by part, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, each with a short note and a photograph. It records what’s sound as well as what is not.

Common questions in West Bergholt
Do you cover smaller places like West Bergholt?
We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.
Is my home in West Bergholt listed or in a conservation area?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
Are you insured?
Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. Ask if you need details for a managing agent or building owner.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first, with the building owner or managing agent. Tell us about it when you book and we will plan the survey around it.
How experienced are you?
We have been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys across London and South East England.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Where it is applicable and safe, yes. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID), flying a sub-250g drone. It is included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where applicable, the Premium Survey.
Can thermal imaging show missing insulation?
The camera can point to heat loss and gaps in insulation. We do not give energy ratings or heat loss calculations, but the report shows where to look more closely.
How the survey changes by roof type
Single-ply and EPDM roofs
Because these membranes are thin, patterns from below frequently show. Shiny surfaces can reflect heat, so we take care reading the images.
Parapets, valleys and junctions
Problems where roof slopes and walls meet are frequently hidden. We combine a close visual check with the thermal images.
How the survey works
We photograph the roof as we go, so the report shows exactly what we saw. We take close-ups from wherever is safe. A typical visit takes between one and two hours for most houses, and more on a big or complicated roof. Being in a smaller place like West Bergholt doesn’t change how the visit works: we look from the ground, from windows, from the loft and from the roof where it is safe. It helps to show us anything you’ve already noticed.
- We go through the roof, the problem and the weather expected on the day.
- We look over the roof from wherever it’s safe.
- We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
- Patterns that stand out are checked with moisture readings.
- The report pairs each thermal image with a photo and explains what it suggests.
Preparing for the visit
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors

How we price thermal roof surveys
Several things affect the price of a survey:
- The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
- Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
- House, block, shop or office
- The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
All our prices include VAT. Thermal roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. You’ll know the price for your roof before you book.
Helping us price your survey
Here’s what helps us most when you get in touch:
- What kind of property and roof it is
- What made you get in touch
- When you need the report by
- The property’s address and postcode
To arrange a survey, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and what you’d like to know about the roof. We’ll confirm the price before booking.
Rented homes, blocks and businesses
Shared roofs need a little more planning: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Let us know about it as you book and we will plan the survey around it.
We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords. Larger roofs take longer, so they’re priced to suit.

Practical tips
Most of what helps is simple and safe from ground level. Our suggestions:
- File the images with your roof records
- Ask us about the forecast if rain is expected
- Take photos of stains as they appear, so we can compare
- Check from ground level or a window, never by climbing
Once we have been, the thermal images, photos and readings go into a single report. Each image is explained in plain words, alongside what we recommend. Premium reports are sent the same day.
Have small defects in the covering fixed early. Once water gets under a membrane, it can travel far before it appears inside.
When you need someone else
Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so there are some things a survey cannot cover:
- Insulation values or heat loss calculations
- What’s inside walls or under coverings, without opening up
- Clear results when the conditions on the day are poor
If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll suggest the right survey. What our survey covers.
What this survey covers

- Insulated roof spaces
- Loft conversions

Drones, thermal imaging and West Bergholt roofs
If your survey includes the drone, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. An older home may be listed, or stand in a conservation area. To find out, check Historic England’s list and ask the council about conservation areas. In either case, a change of roofing material may need consent.
If you run a business near Lion Walk, a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it. For an older house near a landmark such as St Mary the Virgin, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help. Anyone responsible for a site like St Helena School will know that thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.
