Independent thermal roof surveys in Willows Green

About our thermal roof survey in Willows Green

Thermal imaging is a useful tool, but it has limits. Sun, shade, reflective surfaces and wind can all change what the camera shows. That is why we check findings with moisture readings and a close visual inspection. The report is clear about what the images show and what they don’t. Where something cannot be confirmed, we say what would help next. If you’ve noticed patches of heat loss across the roof and damp around chimneys and parapets, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.

Villages like Willows Green often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

The report works through the roof section by section, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, each with a short note and a photo. It records what’s sound as well as what is not.

Honest limits

Before you book, it is worth knowing what a survey will not do:

  • What’s inside walls or under coverings, without opening up
  • Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer
  • Reliable images in rain, strong wind or on a wet roof surface

If you’re not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer before booking. What a survey covers and does not.

What we look at

  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Commercial roofs
  • Loft conversions
  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Flat roofs
  • Ceilings below the roof

How the survey works

Before we start, let us know why you’ve booked: buying, a leak, storm damage, new work or just wanting to know where things stand. It helps us focus on what matters most to you. Most visits take an hour or two at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. For a village or hamlet like Willows Green, the journey is planned ahead of time: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it is safe.

  1. First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
  2. The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
  3. Thermal images are taken across the roof and, where there’s safe access, in the loft.
  4. We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
  5. Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.

Before we arrive

  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared
  • Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
  • Leave side gates unlocked

Different roofs, different checks

Pitched slate and tile roofs

Inside the loft space, thermal images can help with damp around stacks, valleys and roof windows. We check any patterns with moisture readings.

Felt and asphalt flat roofs

Built-up felt and asphalt roofs can hide trapped water for a long time. The camera can give clues to where it’s sitting, when the conditions allow.

Willows Green: your questions answered

How do I find out if my home in Willows Green is listed?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

Is Willows Green within the area you cover?

Yes, Willows Green is covered. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

What’s the best way to book?

It’s easiest to phone 07833 053749 or send us an email. Tell us the address and a little about the roof, and we’ll recommend the right survey. Surveys run on weekdays and at weekends.

Can you check my loft insulation with a thermal camera?

Thermal images can suggest where heat is escaping and where insulation may be missing. We do not give energy ratings or heat loss calculations, but the images show where improvements may help.

Can you do a thermal survey in any weather?

Conditions on the day have a big effect on what the camera can show. Dry, calm weather after some sun gives the best chance of clear images. We record the conditions in the report, so you know how much weight to give the images.

Will you photograph what you find?

Yes. The report includes photographs of what we found, so you can see exactly what each finding refers to.

Can you use a thermal camera on a sloping roof?

On pitched roofs, the camera can point to heat loss and some damp patterns. We explain what the images can and cannot tell you, and back them up with a visual inspection and moisture readings.

Why get it checked now?

If a big flat roof may need replacing, knowing the wet areas first is useful. Images backed by moisture readings show where problems seem to be before you spend. For an older or listed building in a place like Willows Green, repairs may need matching materials and consent, so a defect found early gives time to plan the work properly.

Price depends partly on the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, with VAT included. Size, height and access can affect the price too.

Thermal roof surveys in Willows Green: local notes

If your home is older, it’s worth knowing whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before planning roof work. Listed building consent covers changes to a listed building’s special interest, and an Article 4 direction can bring extra controls in a conservation area. If the drone is used for your survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.

What affects the cost of thermal roof surveys

Several things affect the price of a survey:

  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
  • Whether it’s a home or a commercial building
  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
  • The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium

Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package matters as well. The price is always agreed first.
