Chatham Green Thermal Roof Survey
Find out what’s going on with the roof before you decide what to do next. Thermal roof surveys in Chatham Green, with photos and a clear written report.
- Patches of heat loss across the roof
- Stains that keep coming back
- Leaks that are hard to trace
Thermal roof survey in Chatham Green: what you get
A thermal survey can point to places where heat is escaping through the roof. Gaps in loft insulation and poorly insulated areas can stand out on the images. It works best when the building is heated and it’s colder outside. Our report points out what the images suggest and where to look more closely. We do not give energy ratings or heat loss calculations. If you’re worried about ceilings that feel colder in places and possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering, a survey will tell you what’s going on.
In a small place like Chatham Green, open ground can mean strong wind. Strong wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.
We keep jargon out of it: where something needs attention, it says so plainly, along with how urgent it is.

Chatham Green: your questions answered
Is my home in Chatham Green listed or in a conservation area?
We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Do you carry out roof surveys in Chatham Green?
Yes. We work right across London and South East England, and Chatham Green is part of that. You can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and a few details.
Do I need to be at home?
Someone needs to let us in if we are looking inside or in the loft. Access is agreed with you when you book.
Which survey includes thermal imaging?
Thermal imaging is included in our Premium Survey, from £400. That also includes a full inspection, a drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and a same-day report.
What does a thermal roof survey show?
A thermal camera shows differences in surface temperature. The patterns can suggest wet insulation, gaps in insulation or heat escaping. Findings are checked with moisture readings.
How many surveys have you done?
We have been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have completed over 5,000 surveys across London and the South East.
Do you test for asbestos?
No. Asbestos surveys and sampling aren’t something we do. Where a material might contain it, such as old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it is disturbed.
What happens on the day
We do not take risks to get a closer look. Everything that can be seen safely is inspected, and if part of the roof cannot be seen, the report says so. The survey typically takes an hour or two for a house, and more on a big or complicated roof. Rural addresses near Chatham Green can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- We talk through the roof, any damp or leaks, and the weather expected on the day.
- We look at the roof from the ground, from windows and from the roof itself where it is safe.
- We take thermal images of the roof to pick up temperature patterns.
- Any patterns of interest are checked with moisture readings where we can reach them.
- We write up the thermal images alongside ordinary photos and recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey
- Let us know where we can park nearby
- Clear the way to the loft hatch
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building

How the survey changes by roof type
Parapets, valleys and junctions
Damp at junctions can be hard to see by eye. We combine a close visual check with the thermal images.
Single-ply and EPDM roofs
Thin membranes can show patterns from the layers beneath. Reflections from shiny surfaces can affect readings, which we allow for.
Leave it or get it looked at?
Thermal images can suggest the extent of wet areas without cutting into the roof. It helps when deciding whether to patch an area or replace the roof. Outbuildings and barns around Chatham Green are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. A quick look before winter can save a lot.
Prices start from £400, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, inc. VAT, and we will tell you which fits.

Thermal roof surveys in Chatham Green: local notes
An older home may be listed, or stand in a conservation area. To find out, check Historic England’s list and ask the council about conservation areas. Re-roofing in different materials may need permission there. Weatherboarded walls and clay tile roofs are typical of older Essex buildings, while many towns grew with post-war and newer estates. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from the ground, drone photos and thermal images add detail.
Around Chatham Green, as everywhere, small roof faults are simplest to sort before they let water in. If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near Church of St John the Evangelist, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

What this survey cannot tell you
This is not a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:
- Hidden layers that need to be opened up to check
- Confirming water without moisture readings
- Readings unaffected by sun, shade or reflections
If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or email us and we will point you to the right survey before you book. The full list of what we check.
