Astrope Drone Roof Survey
We carry out drone roof surveys in Astrope and the rest of Hertfordshire. Surveys run on weekdays and at weekends.
- Lead work pulling away at abutments
- Cracked mortar along the ridge
- Hidden gutters full of leaves
Drone roof survey in Astrope: what you get
A drone can see more than your roof, so we take care. The camera stays on your roof, not on gardens or windows next door. If your roof is joined to a neighbour’s, it’s worth letting them know about the visit. We inspect only what the owner has asked us to. Flights are kept as short as the job allows and focused on the roof in question. We survey fragile roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and valleys and parapet gutters, and the problems we are asked to look at most are tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack and coverings that have slipped high up on the roof.
Somewhere as small as Astrope, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from the ground. Weather and airspace are checked before the visit. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. You will know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t.

What a survey costs
All our prices include VAT. The things that change the price are:
- Basic, Standard or Premium
- House, block, shop or office
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
- Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
We offer three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, all including VAT. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you’d like to know.
What to tell us when you get in touch
There’s no need for technical words. It is enough to tell us:
- The address and postcode of the property
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
Our price is from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the roof’s size, access and the package, so phone 07833 053749 or email us with the details.

What we look for on each type of roof
Steep slate and tile slopes
Steep slopes are hard to inspect safely on foot. A drone photographs them closely from a safe position, showing slipped, cracked and missing pieces.
Chimney stacks
The drone shows the outside of the stack, and it is not a flue or gas safety check. We’ll say if a specialist is needed.

A roof problem in a let property affects your tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work with less disruption.
Astrope questions
Will you come out to Astrope?
Yes, we do. We survey roofs across London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
How do I find out if my home in Astrope is listed?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.
Is your drone operator registered?
Yes. We hold both a CAA Flyer ID and an Operator ID. The drone we use weighs under 250g.
Are there drone restrictions in central London?
Some areas need permission from NATS before any flight. Where we can’t fly, we use other safe vantage points.
Is a drone roof survey a thermal survey?
Not as part of the drone survey, which is about close-up photos. Thermal imaging is a separate check in the Premium Survey, and its findings are checked with moisture readings.
What does the report include?
It works through the roof part by part, in writing and with photos, finishing with recommendations. Points are put by urgency where it matters.
Is it a structural engineer’s report?
No. Our survey is not a structural engineer’s report. If we see signs that need an engineer’s opinion, we’ll recommend one.
What a drone roof survey looks like in Astrope
Astrope is about 3 miles from RAF Halton, so the Drone Safety Map is checked for restrictions around it before we fly. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.
Ascott House lies about 4.8 miles north, so building around Astrope goes back a long way. Photos from the air and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Long Marston VA Church of England Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.
Astrope is about 5 miles east of Aylesbury, in Hertfordshire. Astrope is one of many places we visit across Hertfordshire, for houses, flats and commercial buildings. Astrope is one of the places in Hertfordshire where we work for drone roof surveys. You can also see our page for Milton Keynes.
Drone roof surveys in HP23 are booked the same way as anywhere else. Other places close to Astrope include Puttenham (1 mile west), Long Marston (1 mile north), Buckland (2 miles south), Aston Clinton (2 miles south-west) and Broughton (3 miles west). We also work in nearby towns such as Hemel Hempstead (12 miles south-east), Harpenden (15 miles east), Berkhamsted (7 miles south-east), Tring (3 miles south-east), Chorleywood (15 miles south-east) and Grovehill (11 miles south-east).
Landmarks near Astrope
Around Astrope, our work takes us to homes and buildings near The Half Moon Public House and the streets around them. The nearest railway station is Cheddington station, roughly 2.9 miles north-east of the centre. Nearby you’ll also find Tindal Centre (4.2 miles west) and Pitstone Green Museum (2.8 miles east). For a walk, there is Haddington Hill and College Lake nature reserve.
Common roof problems in Astrope
Chimney tops take the worst of the weather. Cracked flaunching, loose pots and eroded pointing are often invisible from below. A drone gets close enough to see them in detail.
Things that frequently lead to a survey include:
- Wind damage high on the roof
- Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
- Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof
- Debris building up in hidden gutters
If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near Church of St Mary (Church of England), older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.
Questions to ask before you book
- What exactly goes into their report
- Whether the loft is part of the inspection
- Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
- How long they’ve been surveying roofs
Why get it checked now?
Small defects on a high roof grow with each storm. Spotting them early keeps the work smaller, whatever height the roof is. In a small place like Astrope, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.
All our prices include VAT. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. You’ll know the price for your survey before booking.

What we do, step by step
You do not need to do much on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we will get on with the inspection. A typical survey takes between one and two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Somewhere as small as Astrope, access is often the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.
- First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
- We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we are surveying.
- If the loft can be reached safely, it is checked too.
- Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.
Preparing for the visit
- Find any records of previous roof work
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
