Your questions about drone roof surveys in Grovehill

How do I find out if my home in Grovehill is listed?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.

Are there drone restrictions around Grovehill?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.

When does the report arrive?

Report times are set by the package. Basic: within 48 hours. Standard: 24 to 48 hours. Premium: the same day. If you have a deadline, such as an exchange date, tell us when booking.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. Asbestos surveys and testing are not part of what we do. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, like cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings and suggest a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before any work.

Do you cover Grovehill for drone roof surveys?

Yes. We cover Grovehill and the rest of Hertfordshire, as part of our work across London and South East England. For a price, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Will you walk on the roof?

Only when it’s safe. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. We use safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where it applies, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.

What does a roof survey cost?

Our price is from £400, including VAT. The final figure depends on the roof and the package you choose, and it’s agreed before booking.

Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Grovehill

Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. It stays within sight for the whole flight, and within the 120-metre limit that applies to all drones in the open category. Every flight is planned around the roof, the site and the people nearby. Airspace and weather are checked before every flight. We never fly where it is not safe. We survey large and complex roofs, chimney stacks and valleys and parapet gutters, and people most often book us about moss building up on slopes and in gutters and ridge and hip pieces working loose.

Around Grovehill, plenty of roofs are low enough to see partly from the garden or the street. Chimney tops, valleys and rear slopes are where close-up or thermal images help most. Both depend on the weather on the day. Even so, a close-up image often shows wear on ridges and flashings that a view from the ground misses.

After the visit, you get a written report with photographs, emailed to you. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

Checking the roof from the ground

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That’s where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.

Roof by roof

Ridges and hips

Ridges and hips are the most exposed parts of a pitched roof. A drone shows cracked mortar and loose ridge tiles.

Chimney stacks

Chimney tops are hard to see from ground level. A drone gets close to the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Grovehill

Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates, and flat-roofed additions turn up almost everywhere. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions.

For an older house near a landmark such as Alexandra Road Congregational Church, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. With High Elms Manor about 4.8 miles south-east, the area around Grovehill has a long history. For older roofs nearby, a look from above or with a thermal imager is a hands-off way to check condition. Take a building like South Hill Primary School: big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once.

Landlords, agents and block managers in Grovehill

Letting agents can arrange access with tenants, at a time agreed in advance. We survey on weekdays and at weekends, which can make access easier.

Letting agents often book on a landlord’s behalf. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.

Why act early in Grovehill

Leaving a slipped slate or a blocked valley can turn a small fault into a leak. Spotting them early keeps the work smaller, whatever height the roof is. Tradespeople may need to travel further to a smaller place like Grovehill, so it helps to plan roof work rather than call someone out in a hurry. A survey gives you that notice.

Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where it applies) come with the Premium Survey, from £400 including VAT. We can help you choose the package that fits what you want to find out.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

Not every roof costs the same to survey, and it comes down to:

  • Commercial roofs and larger buildings
  • The size of the roof
  • Building height and the viewpoints available
  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets

All our prices include VAT. Prices start from £400, including VAT. You’ll know the price for your roof before booking.

Helping us price your survey

If you can, have these to hand when you get in touch:

  • Where the property is, with the postcode
  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work

To arrange a survey, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and what you’d like to know about the roof. You will know the price before anything is booked.

The survey, step by step

We check the roof from outside and, where it’s relevant and there’s safe access, from inside the roof space too. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement, as far as the space allows. The whole visit typically takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Homes around Grovehill frequently have gardens on more than one side, which gives us room to step back and see the roof. Mention any side of the property we can’t get to. The loft, where there is safe access, completes the picture.

  1. First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
  2. We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
  3. On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
  4. Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
  5. We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Keep pets out of the way during the survey
  • For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed
  • Move anything stored under the loft hatch
