Drone roof surveys in Astwick

Drone roof survey in Astwick: what you get

Drones need reasonable weather. Strong wind or heavy rain rules out a flight, because control and safety come first. If the weather turns, we’ll agree another day or inspect what we can by other means. We check the forecast ahead of the visit and again on site. Calm, dry conditions give the sharpest close-up photos. Waiting for a better day is better than a rushed flight. If you’ve noticed debris building up in hidden gutters and loose ridge and hip tiles, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.

Some older homes in villages like Astwick are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

The written findings come by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24–48 hours and Premium on the day.

How we price drone roof surveys

Prices vary from roof to roof, for these reasons:

  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
  • Which survey package you book
  • The size of the roof
  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own

There are three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, with VAT included. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

Getting in touch

Before you get in touch, it is useful to have:

  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is
  • Whether there is a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
  • The property’s address and postcode

You can call us seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays. To book or ask a question, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

What we look for on each type of roof

Valleys and parapet gutters

When a parapet outlet blocks, water can come inside. Outlets and any debris around them are photographed.

Chimney stacks

Our drone check of a chimney is visual, not a flue, gas or sweep inspection. If the flue needs a specialist, we’ll tell you.

For landlords and managing agents

Where a roof is shared: we need access agreed with the building owner or managing agent. Mention it when you contact us and we’ll plan the visit with that in mind.

If the property is let, the agent or a tenant can let us in, at a time agreed ahead of time. Surveys run on any day of the week, which helps when tenants work during the week.

What we can’t see

A survey is a proper look at the roof, but it cannot do everything. The main limits are:

  • Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)
  • Roofs and gardens beyond the one we are surveying
  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)

If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will recommend the right survey. What our survey covers.

What we check

  • Chimney stacks
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Fragile roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Large and complex roofs

The survey, step by step

When we arrive, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that is worrying you. We then inspect everything that can safely be seen, from ground level, from windows, in the roof space and by drone where it applies. Most surveys take an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Somewhere as small as Astwick, access is often the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. If permission is needed, we ask for it ahead of the visit.
  3. Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
  4. The sub-250g drone takes close-up photographs of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
  5. We email a written report with the photographs and our recommendations.

Before the survey

  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • Check we can get to the back of the property
  • If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent

Astwick: your questions answered

Do you cover smaller places like Astwick?

Yes. Astwick is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work right across London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

How do I find out if my home in Astwick is listed?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. We check the parts we’re given access to, and the report makes that clear.

Is your drone operator registered?

Yes. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. Our drone weighs under 250g and follow the drone code.

Does the weather affect a drone survey?

Safety comes first, so the weather decides. Strong wind and heavy rain both rule out flying. We will talk through the options if the day turns bad.

Can you survey at the weekend?

Visits run seven days a week in the daytime, which suits people who work during the week. Just say which days work for you.

How do I arrange a drone roof survey in Astwick?

The quickest way is to phone 07833 053749 or email us. Give us the address and some details about the roof. We survey on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

What you can safely check yourself

Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Photograph them and note the date, which helps when we check the roof.

A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.

Airspace, weather and Astwick roofs

The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions.

Hinxworth Place lies about 1.7 miles east, so building around Astwick goes back a long way. For older roofs nearby, a look from above or with a thermal imager is a hands-off way to check condition. Anyone responsible for a site like St Mary's CofE Academy Stotfold will know that a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. Take an older house close to Church of Saint Guthlac: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.

Astwick is about 1 mile north of Stotfold, in Hertfordshire. We provide drone roof surveys for householders, landlords and businesses in Astwick. Astwick is one of the places in Hertfordshire we cover. For surveys nearby, see our Milton Keynes page.

We work across the SG5 postcode area for drone roof surveys. If you need a drone roof survey at a property on Astwick Road and Sycamore Avenue or a nearby road, we can help. Close by, we survey roofs in Stotfold Common (1 mile south), Stotfold (1 mile south) and Radwell (2 miles south-east). Larger places within reach include Stevenage (9 miles south), Hitchin (6 miles south), Letchworth (4 miles south), Letchworth Garden City (4 miles south), Baldock (4 miles south-east) and Benslow (6 miles south).

The nearest railway station is Arlesey station, roughly 1.5 miles west of the centre. Well-known places in the area include Fairfield Hospital (2.2 miles south) and Bygrave House (3.6 miles south-east). For a walk, there’s Arlesey Old Moat and Glebe Meadows.
