Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Ayot Green
They suit tall buildings, steep or large roofs and roofs that are hard to see from the ground. They’re useful where walking on the roof could damage it or isn’t safe, such as old slate, clay tiles or cement sheets. You get close-up views without anyone setting foot on the roof. We check the airspace for your address ahead of the visit. If a drone isn’t the right tool, we will say so. We survey fragile roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and tall and steep roofs, and people most often book us about worn lead at chimneys and walls and ponding and splits on a high flat roof.
In a small place like Ayot Green, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
The report does not just list problems. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend.

Ayot Green questions
Are there drone restrictions around Ayot Green?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Ayot Green?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
What if it rains on the day?
Some surveys depend on the weather more than others. Drone flights need calm, dry weather, and thermal imaging works best with a dry roof, little wind and a sunny day beforehand. We will rearrange with you if the weather is not right.
Are you insured?
We’re covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.
How long does the survey take?
It usually takes an hour or two for most houses, and more on a big or complicated roof. The report follows by email.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. Our survey is not a structural engineer’s report, and it doesn’t include calculations. If we see signs that need an engineer’s opinion, we’ll recommend one.
Can you survey at the weekend?
Surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To find a day that suits you, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
What happens on the day
The aim of the visit is simple: to see as much of the roof as can safely be seen and record it clearly. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. The visit typically takes about one to two hours for most houses, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. Rural addresses near Ayot Green can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
- We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
- Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
- We also look inside the loft space where it is safe.
- Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.
Before the survey
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- If you’re buying, let the agent know when we are coming
- Let us know about parking before the day
Arrange a survey
If you are buying, it’s useful to book soon after your offer is accepted, so there is time to use the report before exchange. For any other survey, just phone 07833 053749 or email us when you are ready.

Tips that help
A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They apply to most roofs:
- Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
- Expect us to rearrange if it’s too windy or wet
- Make sure the loft can be reached
- Tell us about any leaks or concerns
We email the report to you, including the close-up photos taken by the drone. Each finding is explained in plain words, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant.
Look at the roof from the ground after strong winds. Debris in the garden is a sign to act on. A drone survey can show what has shifted.
When you need someone else
Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, so a survey has limits:
- A flight on a day when the weather is not safe
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
- Close-up photos of next door’s property
If you are not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer. What a survey covers and does not.
What we check

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Ayot Green
Strong winds can lift slates, tiles and ridge pieces. Damage on a high or steep roof is hard to judge from the garden. Close-up photos make it clear what has been disturbed.
Here are some of the things we see often:
- Chimney tops in poor condition
- Cracked mortar along the ridge
- Moss and weeds taking hold up top
- Lifted or split lead flashings
If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for example near Howard Centre, a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it.
Before booking anyone
- If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
- What exactly goes into their report
- How they plan to inspect the roof safely
