Drone roof survey in Dane End

Prices start from £400, including VAT. The Premium Survey includes a drone inspection where it applies, with a same-day report, structural analysis and an in-person consultation. There is a 12-month follow-up as well. We will tell you if a drone is not the right tool for your roof. You get a written report with the close-up photos from the flight. We survey valleys and parapet gutters, flat roofs on upper floors and tall and steep roofs, and people most frequently book us about slipped or missing slates on a high roof and cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots.

Somewhere as small as Dane End, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first, and the journey is planned beforehand. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

How fast the report arrives depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

What we look for on each type of roof

Chimney stacks

Chimney tops are hard to see from the ground. Close-up photos show the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings.

Ridges and hips

Some ridges are fixed with mortar, others with dry-fix systems. We record what we see of their condition.

Drone roof surveys around Dane End

Aston Bury, about 3.6 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Dane End. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles, and flat-roofed additions turn up almost everywhere. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that’s where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place.

The streets around a church such as Parish Church of All Saints are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image. If you look after a building such as Munden Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Dane End is about 5 miles north of Ware, in Hertfordshire. Whether the building in Dane End is a house, a flat or a commercial unit, we can survey the roof. Across Hertfordshire, we cover Dane End and the places around it. Chelmsford is in our area too.

We cover every part of the SG12 postcode area for drone roof surveys. Streets in the area include Whiteley Close, Kingsfield Road and Munden Road, all of which we cover. We also cover the places around Dane End: Whempstead (1 mile west), Haultwick (1 mile north), Sacombe (1 mile south), Sacombe Green (1 mile south-east) and Standon Green End (2 miles south-east). We also work in nearby towns such as Stevenage (6 miles north-west), St Albans (14 miles south-west), Bishop's Stortford (9 miles east), Welwyn Garden City (8 miles south-west), Harpenden (13 miles west) and Hitchin (10 miles north-west).

How the survey works

When we arrive, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you want to find out. We then inspect everything that can be seen safely, from ground level, from windows, in the roof space and by drone where it applies. The survey typically takes between one and two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. In a small place like Dane End, access is normally the main thing to plan. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
  2. Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
  3. On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
  4. We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
  5. Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.

What we cannot see

It’s a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. Its limits include:

  • Flights in strong wind or heavy rain
  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will suggest the right survey. What our survey covers.

What we look at

  • Fragile roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters

Questions from Dane End

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Dane End?

We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

Do you cover smaller places like Dane End?

Yes, we do. We work right across London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Not unless it’s safe. Safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where it applies cover most of what’s needed, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.

How soon will I get the report?

The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. Each one is emailed, ready to forward.

Will the drone show what’s under the tiles?

No. It photographs the outside, not the inside. For the underside, we check the loft where it can be reached safely, as damp and daylight often show there first.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

We have more than 20 years’ experience and have completed over 5,000 surveys.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. We will talk about access when booking.

DIY checks: what’s safe

It helps to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry.

Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.

Practical tips

Getting the most from a drone roof survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Tips:

  • Shut pets inside while we fly
  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
  • Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
  • Clear a spot on the drive or lawn

Premium also includes a 12-month follow-up. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit.

Look at the roof from the ground after strong winds. Debris in the garden is a sign to act on. A drone survey can show what has shifted.
