Drone roof surveys in Further Quarter

About our drone roof survey in Further Quarter

Before any flight, we check the airspace. Near protected airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, flight restriction zones mean permission is needed first. Parts of central London have restricted areas too, where NATS permission is needed. If permission is not given, we inspect by other means and explain why. Prisons have their own drone restriction zones too. If you’re worried about coverings that have slipped high up on the roof and lifted or split lead flashings, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.

Some older homes in villages like Further Quarter are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

The report is written in plain words, so you don’t need to be a roofer to follow it. Photographs show what each point refers to, with the urgent items made clear.

What we look for on each type of roof

Large commercial roofs

Cement sheet roofs on buildings from before 2000 may contain asbestos. We do not test for it, but we flag it so a specialist asbestos surveyor can check.

Ridges and hips

Ridges and hips are the most exposed parts of a pitched roof. From above, we can see loose ridges and missing mortar.

How the survey works

Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect what can be seen safely, and if part of the roof can’t be seen, the report says so. Most visits take about 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Older rural homes like those around Further Quarter can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. Each part is looked at from wherever it can be seen safely, and anything we can’t see is noted.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. We arrange any permission that’s needed before we fly.
  3. On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
  4. We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
  5. Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.

Further Quarter: your questions answered

Will you come out to Further Quarter?

Yes, Further Quarter is covered. We work right across London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it is useful to know about access.

Is my home in Further Quarter listed or in a conservation area?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Is a drone roof survey a thermal survey?

No, the drone survey is photographic. Thermal imaging is a separate check in the Premium Survey.

What insurance do you have?

Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability.

Do you hold CAA registration for the drone?

We are. The CAA has issued us a Flyer ID and an Operator ID, and we fly a drone that weighs under 250g.

Does someone need to be in?

Not necessarily. If we only need the outside, we can agree that in advance, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.

How do I arrange a drone roof survey in Further Quarter?

The quickest way is to call 07833 053749 or send us an email. Tell us the address and a little about the roof. Surveys run on any day of the week.

For landlords and managing agents

Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too, from shops and offices to industrial units. Bigger roofs take more time.

A roof problem in a let property affects your tenants as well as the building. A survey shows what needs attention, so you can plan the work with less disruption.

What happens if roof problems are left?

Small defects on a high roof grow with each storm. Spotting them early keeps the work smaller. Matching old materials, such as handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.

Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so the price reflects that. The price is confirmed before you book.

What a survey costs

Prices vary from roof to roof, and it comes down to:

  • The use of thermal imaging or a drone
  • The shape of the roof and its details
  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own

Price depends partly on the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, including VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.

Booking your survey

If you can, have these to hand when you contact us:

  • Dates you’re working to, such as exchange
  • What kind of property and roof it is
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
  • Whether there’s a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access

You can call us seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays. For a price or to book, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

What this survey cannot tell you

We only report what can safely be seen on the day, so there are some things a survey can’t cover:

  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly
  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
  • Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll point you to the right survey. What our survey covers.
