Drone roof surveys around Paddock Wood

The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times. Many older homes in Kent have handmade clay tiles, including Kent peg tiles held by pegs through two holes, and tile-hanging on their upper walls. Kent’s older buildings take in oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses as well. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these.

Take an older house close to St Andrew's Church: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that is where a view by drone or thermal camera helps.

Drone roof survey in Paddock Wood: what you get

A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it can’t see under the coverings or into the loft. Where there is safe access, we look in the roof space too, because the underside tells its own story. Inside and out together tell you far more. Your report shows the drone photos alongside what we saw in the loft. If there is no safe loft access, the report says so. Common reasons to book are cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots and plant growth and moss on the roof, across valleys and parapet gutters, chimney stacks and large and complex roofs.

Around Paddock Wood, older homes can have thin loft insulation and later additions with roofs of their own. A thermal image can show where heat is escaping or where moisture may be trapped, and drone photos show the roof surfaces themselves. Anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter. Results depend on the weather, so the visit is planned around the forecast.

If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. That way, it’s clear what was covered and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

Different roofs, different checks

Steep slate and tile slopes

On slate roofs, slipped slates often point to corroded nails. We can see the extent of it from above.

Ridges and hips

Loose ridge pieces can be lifted in a storm. Spotting them early stops them falling.

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Paddock Wood

Many roofs are never seen properly from ground level. You can’t see the back slope, the valleys or the chimney tops. Problems in those places often go unseen until they leak, which is why owners turn to a drone.

People normally book a survey when they’ve noticed one of these:

  • Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack
  • Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
  • Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
  • Moss and weeds taking hold up top

Take a building like Paddock Wood Primary School: thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

What to expect from a roof survey

Rented homes, blocks and businesses

A roof problem in a let property affects your tenants as well as the building. A survey shows what needs attention, so you can plan the work with less disruption.

An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.

What a survey costs

Not every roof costs the same to survey, and it comes down to:

  • The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
  • Whether it is a home or a commercial building
  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
  • The roof’s overall size

For a price for your roof in Paddock Wood, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and a few details. We will confirm the figure before booking.

Booking your survey

Some details help us recommend the right survey and price. When you contact us, it’s useful to mention:

  • Where the property is, with the postcode
  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
  • Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
  • Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof

Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. For any other survey, just phone 07833 053749 or send us an email when you’re ready.

What we can’t see

Some things can’t be seen without opening up the roof, so a survey has limits:

  • Flights in strong wind or a downpour
  • A structural engineer’s report
  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we will point you to the right survey. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

Questions from Paddock Wood

Do you cover smaller places like Paddock Wood?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route as you book.

Is drone flying allowed in Paddock Wood?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

Does the report include photos?

Yes, plenty. Pictures sit next to the findings they show, which makes the report easy to follow.

How long does the survey take?

Time on site depends on the roof, but most surveys take about one to two hours at most homes, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. The written report follows by email.

How many surveys have you done?

We have more than 20 years’ experience and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys.

What do I do with the report?

The report arrives by email. With Standard there’s a follow-up consultation; with Premium, an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.

Can you survey in bad weather?

Some surveys depend on the weather more than others. Drones cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof and little wind. We will rearrange with you if the weather isn’t right.

How it works

We don’t take risks to get a closer look. We inspect everything that’s safely in view, and anything we cannot see is noted in the report. Most visits take roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. With a bit of garden around a house, as there frequently is around Paddock Wood, the roof can be viewed from several angles. Mention any side of the property we can’t get to. The loft, where there is safe access, completes the picture.

  1. We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
  2. We arrange any permission that’s needed before we fly.
  3. Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
  4. The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
  5. We email a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
  • Leave a clear route to the loft
  • Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
