Drone roof survey in Gestingthorpe
Drone roof surveys are available in Gestingthorpe and throughout London and the South East, subject to airspace checks and the weather. We fly on any day of the week. We check the airspace for your address before booking a flight. You get a written report with close-up photographs and recommendations. To check whether your roof suits a drone survey, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form. We survey tall and steep roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and fragile roofs, and people most often book us about tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack and flashings that have come away.
Villages like Gestingthorpe often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
Nothing in the report is left vague: if work is needed, the report says so clearly.

Honest limits
Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:
- Flights in a restricted zone without permission
- A structural engineer’s report
- Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll tell you. What our survey covers.

FAQs for Gestingthorpe
Will you come out to Gestingthorpe?
Yes, we do. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it’s useful to know about access.
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Gestingthorpe?
The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes, if the building owner or managing agent agrees access. We check the parts we are given access to.
How many surveys have you done?
More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years.
Does the weather affect the survey?
Some surveys depend on the weather more than others. Drones cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best with a dry roof, little wind and a sunny day beforehand. We will rearrange with you if the weather isn’t right.
How much is a survey?
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. You will know the price for the job before booking. To get a price, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.
How long will you be at the property?
It usually takes between one and two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. The report follows by email.
What we look for on each type of roof
Large commercial roofs
Big roofs on offices, warehouses and units take time to inspect. A drone photographs the whole surface methodically.
Valleys and parapet gutters
A butterfly roof drains to a central valley gutter. You cannot see it from the street at all, but a drone shows it clearly.
How it works
The visit usually starts outside and finishes in the loft: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the roof space where it can be reached. All told, expect about 1–2 hours for most houses, or half a day or so for a commercial building. Older roofs in small places like Gestingthorpe can have low, tight loft spaces, so it is useful to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
- We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
- We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
- We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
- We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.

Practical tips
Some practical points come up on survey after survey. They apply to most roofs:
- Let us know about any leaks or concerns
- Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
- Move stored items away from the hatch
The Premium Survey includes an in-person consultation to go through what the drone showed. It is a chance to ask about anything in the report.
Have high or hard-to-reach roofs surveyed every few years. Comparing surveys shows what is wearing, and early repairs keep water out.
Drones, thermal imaging and Gestingthorpe roofs
We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight. Weatherboarded walls and clay tile roofs are typical of older Essex buildings, alongside plenty of post-war and newer estates. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.
Historic houses like Hedingham Castle, about 2.4 miles south-west, show how far back building around Gestingthorpe goes. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey by drone or thermal camera does not touch the roof itself. If your house is among the older ones in the streets near Church of St Mary the Virgin, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys
Prices always include VAT. The things that change the price are:
- The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
- The size of the roof
- The shape of the roof and its details
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
There are three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you’d like to know.
Helping us price your survey
Before you get in touch, it helps to have:
- Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
- Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
- The type of building and roof, like pitched or flat
When you are ready to go ahead, phone 07833 053749 or email us. We will suggest a package, agree the price and find a date, weekday or weekend.
Rented homes, blocks and businesses
Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too. Bigger roofs take more time, so they’re priced to suit.
