Questions from Grazeley
Is drone flying allowed in Grazeley?
Typically it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
Is my home in Grazeley listed or in a conservation area?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.
Do you cover Grazeley?
Yes. We survey roofs across London and South East England, and that includes Grazeley.
What does the report include?
You get our findings in writing, part by part, with photos, finishing with recommendations. Points are put by urgency where it matters.
How long does the survey take?
It usually takes an hour or two for most houses, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. You’ll then get the report by email, on the timescale of your package.
Is it a structural engineer’s report?
No. Visible signs such as deflection or sagging are recorded, but we do not provide calculations or an engineer’s opinion. If one is needed, the report says so.
Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?
We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day, which suits people who work during the week. Just say which days work for you.
Drone roof survey in Grazeley: what you get
Prices start from £400, including VAT. The Premium Survey includes a drone inspection where it applies, with a same-day report, structural analysis and an in-person consultation. It also includes a follow-up after 12 months. We’ll tell you if a drone is not the right tool for your roof. Every drone survey comes with a written report and close-up photos. If you’re worried about ridge and hip pieces working loose and gaps where slates or tiles have gone, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.
Some older homes in villages like Grazeley are listed or in a conservation area. A look from above or with a thermal imager doesn’t touch the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Drone roof surveys in Grazeley: local notes
In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up photos from the air and thermal images help. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons.
For an older house near a landmark such as Holy Trinity Church, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. Stratfield Saye House, about 3.3 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Grazeley. A drone or thermal survey does not involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings.
Grazeley is about 4 miles south of Reading, in West Berkshire. Whether the building in Grazeley is a house, a flat or a commercial unit, the roof can be surveyed. We cover towns and villages across West Berkshire, from the larger towns to small villages.
We survey roofs across RG7 for drone roof surveys. We offer drone roof surveys to properties on Mereoak Lane, Church Lane and Mortimer Road and the roads around them. If you’re just outside Grazeley, we cover Spencers Wood (1 mile east), Beech Hill (2 miles south), Swallowfield (2 miles south-east), Riseley (3 miles south-east) and Heckfield Heath (4 miles south-east). Within a short drive, we also cover Newbury (14 miles west), Thatcham (11 miles west), Burghfield Common (3 miles west), Speenhamland (14 miles west), Calcot (4 miles north-west) and Shaw (14 miles west).
Around Grazeley
Locally, jobs take us to homes and businesses close to Ryeish Green School, The Farriers Arms and Oakbank and the streets around them. The closest station to Grazeley is Reading Green Park station, about 2.1 miles north. Other landmarks nearby include Thames Valley Police Museum (3.9 miles north-west) and Beaumys Castle (1.5 miles south-east). Not far away are Fobney Island Wetland Reserve and Longwater.
The survey, step by step
On the day, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that is worrying you. We then inspect everything that can be seen safely. The survey usually takes about one to two hours at a typical home, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Rural addresses near Grazeley can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
- We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
- We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
- We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
- We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.
How to prepare
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Clear the way to the loft hatch
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building

Advice
Should I look at the roof myself first?
Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Don’t go up yourself.
What you cannot do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That’s where a survey comes in.
Surveys for landlords and agents in Grazeley
An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord, with the report sent to whoever needs it. Access is agreed with the tenant ahead of time.
Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. The report is emailed, so it can go straight to your client, photographs included.
When you need someone else
Every survey has limits, and we’d rather be clear about that before you book. Keep these in mind:
- Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)
- Close-up photos of next door’s property
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll tell you before booking. What our survey covers.

Before and after the survey
Here are a few things we’d tell any owner, before and after a survey:
- Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
- Allow time for permission if you’re in a flight restriction zone
- Move stored items away from the hatch
- Tell us the exact address as you book
The Premium Survey report comes the same day. It includes the drone photos where a flight was possible, alongside the other checks in the package.
After a storm, check from the garden and the street. Pieces of slate or tile on the ground mean something has moved. A drone survey can show what has shifted.
Common roof problems in Grazeley
Walking on some roofs does more harm than good. Old slates and clay tiles crack underfoot, and some sheet roofs are fragile. A drone lets us see them closely without touching them.
Look out for signs like these:
- Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
- Moss and weeds taking hold up top
- Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
- Ridge pieces that have lifted
Take a building like Grazeley Parochial Church of England Aided Primary School: thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

- Is there a chance to talk the report through?
- How they’ll see the roof: from ground level, the loft, the roof or by drone
