Drone roof surveys across West Berkshire: what to expect

We carry out drone roof surveys in West Berkshire and across London and South East England, where the airspace and the weather allow. We fly seven days a week. Every address is checked for airspace restrictions first. You get a written report with close-up photographs and recommendations. To check whether your roof suits a drone survey, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form. Typical surveys look at slates or tiles shifted by high winds and chimney tops in poor condition, across tall and steep roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and large and complex roofs.

We photograph the roof as we go, so you can see in the report what we found and where. We take close-ups from wherever is safe. A typical visit takes about one to two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs.

  1. You give us the address and tell us about the roof.
  2. We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
  3. Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are checked.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

How our prices work

Prices quoted always include VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Prices start from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

Near you in Newbury

Locally, jobs take us to homes and businesses close to St Nicolas Church, Victoria Park and St Bartholomew's School. Other local landmarks include The Diamond Tap (within half a mile north-east), St Nicolas C.E. Junior School (less than half a mile south) and St Bartholomew's School (0.6 miles south-west). There’s a railway station in Newbury itself: Newbury station. A little further out are Donnington Castle (1.6 miles north-west) and West Berkshire Community Hospital (1.5 miles east). For a walk, there’s Audrey's Meadow.

Drone roof surveys across West Berkshire: local notes

From Newbury, Thatcham and Burghfield Common to its smaller places, West Berkshire has roofs that are tall, steep or hard to see from ground level. Drone photos and thermal images show what cannot be reached safely.

From inner London terraces to Kent oast houses, Sussex tile-hanging and Hampshire thatch, the South East has a huge mix of roofs. Roofs in West Berkshire are part of that picture.

Newbury: A roof leak in a hotel or guest house around Newbury means lost rooms as well as repairs. With Shaw House about 1 mile north, the area around Newbury has a long history. For older roofs nearby, a look by drone or thermal camera is a hands-off way to check condition.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses

We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords, including offices, shops and units. Bigger roofs take more time, so they’re priced to suit.

Shared roofs need a little more planning: we need access agreed with the building owner or managing agent. Let us know about it when booking and we will plan the visit with that in mind.

When you need someone else

We only report everything that’s safely in view on the day, so there are some things a survey can’t cover:

  • Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)
  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
  • A flight where airspace permission is refused

How we price drone roof surveys

Prices vary from roof to roof, for these reasons:

  • Basic, Standard or Premium
  • The use of thermal imaging or a drone
  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
  • How big the roof is

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, including VAT, and we will tell you which fits.

Helping us price your survey

A few details help us suggest the right survey and price. When you contact us, let us know:

  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block
  • Any marks or damp showing indoors
  • The address and postcode of the property

Booking is simple: just call 07833 053749 or email us, let us know about the property and we will suggest the right survey. The price is agreed up front.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Don’t go up yourself.

How the survey changes by roof type

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Outlets, edges and roof plant are common problem areas. We photograph them closely, as far as the flight allows.

Steep slate and tile slopes

Widespread slipping on slate typically means nail fatigue. Close-up photos show how widespread it is.

West Berkshire questions

What about my neighbours’ privacy?

No, the camera is kept on your roof. Next door’s windows and gardens are kept out of shot as far as possible, and flights are kept short. A quick word with the neighbours is a good idea.

Can you survey at the weekend?

Visits run seven days a week in the daytime, which suits people who work during the week. Let us know your preferred days when you book.

What’s the best way to book?

It’s easiest to call 07833 053749 or drop us an email. Give us the address and a few details about the roof, and we’ll suggest the right survey. We survey on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Do drone rules differ in central London?

Parts of central London are restricted, including areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs, where flights need permission from NATS. We check the airspace for your address and apply where needed.

What does the report include?

It sets out what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, with photos throughout. It also says if any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. We can flag materials that might contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. Buildings built or refurbished before 2000 may contain it.

Is your drone operator registered?

Yes. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. We fly a sub-250g drone and follow the drone code.
