Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Lower Padworth
Some roofs are hard or unsafe to reach. Our drone roof survey gets a camera close to them without anyone climbing. It shows coverings, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters clearly. The photos go into a written report. It also suits roofs that would be damaged by someone walking on them. If we can’t fly, we tell you why. If you’re worried about lifted or split lead flashings and hidden gutters full of leaves, a survey will tell you what’s going on.
Some older homes in villages like Lower Padworth are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, so it’s a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
We write the report in plain English, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Photos show what each point refers to, with the urgent items made clear.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses
For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. Recommendations are set out in order of urgency where relevant, which helps with budgets and planning.
Landlords and letting agents in Lower Padworth book surveys as well as homeowners. The report gives you a dated record of the roof, with photographs, useful for planning maintenance.
What we’re asked to look at in Lower Padworth
From the pavement, most of a tall roof is out of sight. Rear slopes, valleys and the tops of chimneys are hidden. Problems in those places often go unseen until they leak, which is why owners turn to a drone.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
- Standing water on a flat roof
- Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
- Vegetation in valleys and gutters
In and around Lower Padworth, as anywhere, a roof is easiest to deal with when its problems are found early.

Flying and imaging in Lower Padworth
Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles, with flat-roofed extensions, dormers and garages common everywhere. Many roofs like these cannot be judged properly from the pavement, and that is where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place. Before planning roof work on an older home, find out whether it is listed or in a conservation area. Listed building consent covers changes to a listed building’s special interest, and an Article 4 direction can bring extra controls in a conservation area.
For an older house near a landmark like Church of St Mary, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

DIY checks: what’s safe
You can learn a lot from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.
Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Share it with us as you book, as it helps us focus the survey.
When you need someone else
Our survey isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:
- The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
- Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)
- Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will tell you. What our survey covers.
What we check
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Chimney stacks
- Fragile roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Large and complex roofs
- Tall and steep roofs
What we look for on each type of roof
Chimney stacks
Chimney tops are hard to see from the ground. A drone gets close to the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings, so cracks and gaps are clear.
Large commercial roofs
Many commercial roofs have fragile sheets or roof lights. A drone keeps everyone off them.
FAQs for Lower Padworth
How do I find out if my home in Lower Padworth is listed?
We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Do you cover smaller places like Lower Padworth?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Safety comes first, so the weather decides. We won’t fly in strong wind or heavy rain. We will talk through the options if the day turns bad.
Are you structural engineers?
No. We are roof surveyors, not structural engineers. If we see signs that need an engineer’s opinion, we’ll recommend one.
Will you photograph next door’s garden?
We keep the camera on the roof we’re surveying, not on neighbouring gardens or windows. We inspect only the roof you’ve asked about. A word with next door beforehand is a good idea.
What if my home is near an airport?
Only with the right permission. Confirmed flight restriction zones include Heathrow, Gatwick, London City, Stansted, Luton and Southampton, among others, and a flight inside one needs the airport’s or air traffic control’s say-so. Without it, we inspect from other safe viewpoints.
Can you fly a drone in central London?
Central London has restricted areas where NATS permission is needed. Where we cannot fly, we use other safe vantage points and explain what we could see.
What happens on the day
The visit usually starts outside and finishes in the loft: outside views come first, then the roof space if there is safe access. All told, expect an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Rural addresses near Lower Padworth can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
