Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Highclere
Our drone weighs under 250g, and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. It stays within sight for the whole flight, and within the 120-metre limit that applies to all drones in the open category. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Airspace and weather are checked before every flight. We never fly where it isn’t safe. Common reasons to book are debris building up in hidden gutters and lifted or split lead flashings, across valleys and parapet gutters, flat roofs on upper floors and chimney stacks.
Some older homes in villages like Highclere are listed or in a conservation area. A look from the air or with a thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
Every survey ends with a written report, with photos, emailed to you. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

What happens on the day
Every visit follows the same pattern: we hear what you’ve seen, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, take photographs as we go and record our findings for the written report. Most visits take about 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Older roofs in small places like Highclere can have low, tight loft spaces, so it is useful to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it is safe.
- First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
- Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
- On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
- We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
- You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Make sure the loft hatch can be reached
- Leave side gates unlocked
- Point out any leaks or damp patches

Advice
What we look for on each type of roof
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Flat roof coverings wear out at different rates. Photos show how the covering is wearing.
Chimney stacks
Our drone check of a chimney is visual, not a flue, gas or sweep inspection. We will say if a specialist is needed.
Why get it checked now?
Faults on high roofs tend to be found late. By that stage the damage has spread inside. Looking from above picks up the early signs. Around Highclere, older homes often have old roof timbers, and water through a failed covering can rot timber if it’s left.
A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package matters as well. The price is always agreed first.

When you need someone else
Some things cannot be seen without opening up the roof, so a survey has limits:
- Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
- A flight on a day when the weather isn’t safe
If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or email us and we will recommend the right survey. What a survey covers and does not.

Drone roof surveys in Highclere: local notes
Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. The wider area around Highclere has a long history of building, with Highclere Castle about 1.4 miles south-east. On older houses around here, roofs frequently carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.
If you look after a building like Woolton Hill Junior School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. The streets around a church like Church of St Michael Archangel are often among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Questions from Highclere
Do you cover smaller places like Highclere?
Yes, we do. Our area covers London and the South East, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Is my home in Highclere listed or in a conservation area?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
What happens if the weather is bad?
The flight waits for better weather. Wind and heavy rain are the two things that ground a small drone, so we’d move the date with you.
Do you hold CAA registration for the drone?
Yes. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. We fly a sub-250g drone and follow the drone code.
How long will you be at the property?
Allow about 1–2 hours at most homes, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. We will confirm what to expect when we arrange the visit.
What does a roof survey cost?
Prices start from £400, including VAT. Our Basic Survey starts from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all with VAT included.
Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?
Visits run seven days a week in the daytime, which suits people who work during the week. Just say which days work for you.
DIY checks: what’s safe
A lot can be seen from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please do not climb up for a closer look.
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
What affects the cost of drone roof surveys
We confirm the price for your roof before booking. This is what makes a difference:
- Height and safe access
- Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages

- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
For a price for your roof in Highclere, phone 07833 053749 or email us and tell us about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.
