Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in Highclere
After a storm, it’s useful to have a clear record of what happened to your roof. We photograph the damage, describe it and note whether it fits storm damage, older wear or both. We aren’t loss adjusters, and we can’t say whether a claim will be paid. What we give you is an independent record of the roof. We survey chimney stacks, flashings and ridges and hips, and people most often book us about gutters pulled loose in the wind and damaged ridges and hips.
For a small place like Highclere, the inspection is the same as anywhere: the journey and access are just planned in advance. It’s useful to know where the water appears, in what weather, and what you’ve seen outside, plus any earlier repairs. If you have photographs of the water coming in, they help as well.
If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. That way, it is clear what was covered and what wasn’t.

How we price storm damage roof reports
Several things affect the price of a survey:
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
- Commercial roofs and larger buildings
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
- Height and safe access
Every price we give includes VAT. Storm damage roof report starts from £150, including VAT. We confirm the price for your survey before booking.
What to let us know when you contact us
The more you let us know, the easier it is to price the survey. When you contact us, it helps to mention:
- Your timetable, such as an exchange date
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
- Anything about access we should know
- The reason for the survey, like buying, a leak or storm damage
We survey roofs on any day of the week. To find a date that works for you, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and the days you’d prefer.

What we can’t see
A survey is a close look at the roof, but it can’t do everything. The main limits are:
- A decision on your insurance claim
- The work of a loss adjuster appointed by your insurer
- A price for the repairs
If you are not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will give you a straight answer. What our survey covers.
What we check
- Flat roofs
- Ridges and hips
- Slate and tile slopes
- Flashings
- Gutters and fascias
- Chimney stacks
What happens if roof problems are left?
The sooner the damage is recorded, the clearer the evidence. Later weather and temporary repairs can make it harder to see what happened. Older cottages and farmhouses around Highclere can have roof timbers that have been there a very long time, where water from a failed roof can cause rot if it’s left.
Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where applicable) come with the Premium Survey, from £400 including VAT. We can help you choose the package that fits what you’d like to know.

How the survey works
We work from the outside in: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the roof space where it can be reached. All told, expect roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. Somewhere like Highclere needs a little journey planning: let us know about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it is safe.
- We start with the details: when the storm hit and what damage you can see.
- The roof is looked at from the ground, from windows and from the loft space where it is safe.
- The damage is recorded with photos, area by area.
- We look at whether the damage fits storm damage, older wear or both.
- You get a written report you can pass to your insurer.
Preparing for the visit
- Let us know about parking near the property
- If you’re buying, let the agent know when we are coming
- Leave a clear route to the loft

Should I look at the roof myself first?
A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Do not go up yourself.
What we look for on each type of roof
Ridge and hip tiles
Water can get in where ridge tiles have moved. Each one is recorded with photos.
Flat roof coverings
Debris blown onto a flat roof can puncture the covering or block outlets. We record what we find.
Highclere roofs and the weather
Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. The covering and its details give the first clues when tracing where water is coming from. The wider area around Highclere has a long history of building, with Highclere Castle about 1.4 miles south-east. If your home is one of the older ones, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.
For site and facilities teams at buildings like Woolton Hill Junior School, water through a big roof can travel a long way before it drips, so the search covers more than the obvious spot. For landlords with property near Newbury station, a tenant living with a leak needs the cause found, not just the stain painted over. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Michael Archangel, old mortar, worn lead and slipped slates are the usual suspects when water gets in.

Highclere questions
How do I find out if my home in Highclere is listed?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
Is Highclere within the area you cover?
Yes, we do. We work right across London and the South East, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it’s useful to know about access.
Does your report mean my claim will be accepted?
Only your insurer can decide that. Our report records what is damaged, with photos, and the likely cause, for you to give to your insurer.
Do you look in the roof space?
Usually, if there is one and it can be reached safely. The roof space can show things the outside cannot, such as damp timbers, staining or daylight.
Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?
We carry out surveys seven days a week. To arrange a date, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
How do I book a survey in Highclere?
Just call 07833 053749 or drop us an email. We will ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.
