About our drone roof survey in Hollington

They suit tall buildings, steep or large roofs and roofs that are hard to see from the ground. They also suit fragile roofs that nobody should walk on. You get close-up views without anyone setting foot on the roof. We check the airspace for your address before the visit. We will tell you if another approach would work better. If you are worried about hidden gutters full of leaves and damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on large and complex roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and tall and steep roofs alike.

Villages like Hollington often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. Strong wind or a downpour stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

You can share the report with anyone who needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent, whichever applies.

What happens on the day

The aim of the visit is simple: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. It normally takes between one and two hours for a house, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. In a small place like Hollington, access is usually the main thing to plan. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Weekday and weekend visits are available.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is checked, with permission requested if required.
  3. Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are looked at.
  4. Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
  5. The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.

Advice

Before and after the survey

A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:

  • Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
  • Make sure there is room outside for the drone to take off
  • Keep pets indoors during the flight
  • Expect a little longer if permission is needed

With the Premium Survey, the report arrives the same day. It includes the drone photos where a flight was possible, alongside the other checks in the package.

Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Photograph anything new.

Drones, thermal imaging and Hollington roofs

We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons.

Historic houses such as Stargroves, about 0.8 miles north-west, show how far back building around Hollington goes. A drone or thermal survey doesn’t involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings. Anyone responsible for a site like St Thomas' Church of England Infant School will know that big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once. If your house is among the older ones in the streets near Church of St Thomas, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.

Can I check my roof myself?

A lot can be seen from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.

Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground, and those are details a survey looks at closely.

What this survey cannot tell you

In fairness, a roof survey has limits:

  • A structural engineer’s report
  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
  • Flights in strong wind or heavy rain

If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer. The full list of what we check.

What we look at

  • Chimney stacks
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Fragile roofs
  • Large and complex roofs

Hollington questions

How do I find out if my home in Hollington is listed?

We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Will you come out to Hollington?

Yes. Hollington is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work right across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Will I get photos?

Yes. Photographs are taken throughout the survey, and they go into the written report alongside our recommendations.

Can you give me structural calculations?

No. Visible signs like deflection or sagging are recorded, but calculations and an engineer’s opinion are outside what we do. The report will say if you need an engineer.

How much does a drone roof survey cost in Hollington?

Prices start from £400, including VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on its size, height, access and the package, confirmed before anything is booked.

What happens after the survey?

We email you the written report with photographs and recommendations. You can use it to talk to a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent, whichever applies.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

We have completed more than 5,000 surveys, over more than 20 years, and 98% of clients are satisfied.

Different roofs, different checks

Large commercial roofs

Large commercial roofs cover a lot of ground. The drone covers the roof area by area.

Ridges and hips

Loose ridge pieces can be lifted in a storm. Finding them early keeps them from coming down.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

When we price a survey, we consider:

  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages

We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, with VAT included. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

Booking your survey

When you call or email, these details help:

  • Any marks or damp showing indoors
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
  • Anything about access we should know
  • What kind of property and roof it is

When you’re ready to go ahead, call 07833 053749 or send us an email. We’ll suggest a package, agree the price and find a date, weekday or weekend.
