Drone roof survey in Ecchinswell

We carry out drone roof surveys in Ecchinswell and across London and the South East, where the airspace and the weather allow. We fly on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. We check the airspace for your address before booking a flight. The report includes the drone photos and our recommendations. To ask whether a drone survey suits your roof, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address. Typical surveys look at debris building up in hidden gutters and flashings that have come away, across tall and steep roofs, fragile roofs and valleys and parapet gutters.

Somewhere as small as Ecchinswell, older roofs are frequently steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Weather and airspace are checked ahead of the visit. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent.

When you need someone else

Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, and that sets some limits:

  • A structural engineer’s report
  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly
  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll tell you before booking. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

Airspace, weather and Ecchinswell roofs

Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. Highclere Castle, about 3.4 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Ecchinswell. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.

If you live in an older home near Church of St Lawrence, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. If you look after a building such as Ecchinswell and Sydmonton Church of England Primary School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Common questions in Ecchinswell

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Ecchinswell?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.

Are there drone restrictions around Ecchinswell?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.

How much is a survey?

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. The final figure depends on the roof and the package you choose, confirmed before anything is booked.

How long is the visit?

It usually takes about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. The written report follows by email.

What insurance do you have?

Every survey is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance.

Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?

No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you’ll need a RICS survey as well.

Is it a structural engineer’s report?

No. We note visible signs like sagging or deflection, but we don’t carry out calculations or give an engineer’s opinion. Where an engineer is needed, we say so in the report.

What happens on the day

A survey visit follows a simple order: we hear what you’ve seen, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, photograph what we find and make notes for the report. It normally takes about 1–2 hours for a house, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. In a hamlet or village like Ecchinswell, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.

  1. First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
  2. We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
  3. Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are checked.
  4. Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

DIY checks: what’s safe

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

A lot can be seen from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.

How the survey changes by roof type

Steep slate and tile slopes

Old slates and clay tiles can crack underfoot. The drone sees them without touching them, so the survey doesn’t add damage.

Chimney stacks

The drone shows the outside of the stack, not a flue, gas or sweep inspection. If the flue needs a specialist, we will tell you.

Tips that help

A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:

  • Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
  • Expect a little longer if permission is needed
  • Shut pets inside while we fly

Your report arrives by email, including the close-up photos taken by the drone. Each finding is explained in plain words, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant.

Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. The underside often shows problems before the outside does. Photograph anything new.
