How a drone roof survey works in Wickham Heath
A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it can’t see under the coverings or into the loft. Where there is safe access, we look in the roof space too, since that is where leaks and condensation often show first. Together, the two give a fuller picture. Your report shows the drone photos alongside what we saw in the loft. Where the loft can’t be reached safely, we note it. If you’ve noticed flat roofs on upper floors that hold water and storm damage on steep or tall roofs, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.
Somewhere as small as Wickham Heath, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you cannot get from ground level. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. It is useful straight away, and a good reference for later, such as when you want to compare after future work.

Different roofs, different checks
Ridges and hips
Some ridges are fixed with mortar, others with dry-fix systems. Their condition is noted in the report.
Steep slate and tile slopes
On slate roofs, slipped slates often point to corroded nails. Close-up photos show how widespread it is.
What affects the price in Wickham Heath
The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. That comes down to:
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
- The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
- Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
- The size of the roof
There are three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you’d like to know.
Getting in touch
You don’t need to know any roofing terms. It is enough to let us know:
- Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
- How the loft is reached, if there is one

FAQs for Wickham Heath
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Wickham Heath?
Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.
Do you cover smaller places like Wickham Heath?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our area covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
What does a roof survey cost?
Prices start from £400, including VAT. Our three packages are Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, including VAT.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.
What’s the best way to book?
To arrange a survey, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and tell us the address and what you want to find out. We will confirm the price and find a day that suits.
How long does the survey take?
It normally takes about one to two hours for most houses, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. The written report follows by email, on the timescale of your package.
Does the weather affect the survey?
It can, depending on the survey. Drones cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with a dry roof, little wind and a sunny day beforehand. We will rearrange with you if the weather isn’t right.
Why get it checked now?
A drone record gives you a baseline. Comparing them with later photos shows what has changed. It helps when you plan ahead. Matching old materials, such as handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. That is one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.
Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so the price reflects that. You’ll know the figure before booking.

How the survey works
There is not much for you to do on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we will take it from there. A typical survey takes between one and two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Somewhere as small as Wickham Heath, access is frequently the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.
- First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
- If permission is needed, we ask for it ahead of the visit.
- On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
- We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
- Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.
How to prepare
- Let us know about parking near the property
- If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in
- Leave side gates unlocked

Advice
Signs you need a drone roof survey in Wickham Heath
Chimney tops take the worst of the weather. From ground level, you rarely see cracked flaunching or loose pots. A drone gets close enough to see them in detail.
We are often asked to look at:
- Moss and weeds taking hold up top
- Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
- Storm damage on steep or tall roofs
- Debris building up in hidden gutters
The streets around a church such as Parish Church of St Andrew are often among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image.
What to check before booking
- What’s outside the scope of the survey
- Which viewpoints they use to see the roof
- Whether they hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance
- What follow-up you get after the report
DIY checks: what’s safe
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground.
