About our drone roof survey in Marsh Benham
Before any flight, we check the airspace. Flight restriction zones around airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick and London City need permission from the airport or air traffic control. Central London has restricted areas of its own, which need NATS permission. If we cannot fly, we use other safe vantage points instead and explain why. Prisons have their own drone restriction zones too. We survey valleys and parapet gutters, flat roofs on upper floors and chimney stacks, and the problems we are asked to look at most are moss building up on slopes and in gutters and hidden gutters full of leaves.
Older buildings in small places like Marsh Benham may be listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, so it’s a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
The report works through the roof section by section, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets. You will see the good as well as the bad.

Why get it checked now?
Leaving a high roof unchecked means relying on what you can see from below. Close-up photos show what’s really there. It’s far easier to plan work when you can see the problem. In a small place like Marsh Benham, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

What a drone roof survey does not cover
Some things cannot be seen without opening up the roof, so a survey has limits:
- Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
- Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)
- Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we will recommend the right survey. What our survey covers.
What this survey covers
- Tall and steep roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Chimney stacks
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Large and complex roofs

FAQs for Marsh Benham
Is Marsh Benham within the area you cover?
Yes, Marsh Benham is covered. We survey roofs across London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Are there drone restrictions around Marsh Benham?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning. Tell us about it when booking and we’ll explain what’s needed.
How many surveys have you done?
We have more than 20 years’ experience and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you’ll need a RICS survey as well.
Are you insured?
Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability, and details are available on request.
Does the report include photos?
Yes. Photographs are part of every report.
How it works
We work from the outside in: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the loft space where it can be reached. All told, expect between one and two hours for a house, and longer for a large or complex roof. Somewhere like Marsh Benham needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there’s safe access and from the roof where it is safe.
- We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
- If permission is needed, we ask for it ahead of the visit.
- Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
- We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
- We email a written report with the photographs and our recommendations.
Before the survey
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
- For a flat or shared roof, check access with whoever owns or manages the building
- Keep pets in another room

Photos help, if you have them. Pictures from ground level or a window are fine; never climb up to get a better view. To send them or to book, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
Advice
What affects the cost of drone roof surveys
Prices always include VAT. What changes the price is:
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
- Height and safe access
- Roof area
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
Prices quoted always include VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Our price is from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.
Booking your survey
We will normally ask about:
- The kind of building and roof involved
- When you need the report by
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
- Whether there’s a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
Prices start from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the roof’s size, access and the package, so phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the details.
Tips from our surveys
These tips come from what we see on roofs every week, before and after a survey:
- Shut pets inside while we fly
- Check there is room outside for the drone to take off
- Tell us about any leaks or concerns
- Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
The Premium Survey report comes the same day. Drone photos are included where we could fly, alongside the other checks in the package.
Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Comparing surveys shows what is wearing, and early repairs keep water out.
Flying and imaging in Marsh Benham
Historic houses like Benham Park, about 0.7 miles east, show how far back building in the area around Marsh Benham goes. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.
Anyone responsible for a site like Stockcross C.E. School will know that a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. If you live in an older home near Church of St John, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.
