Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Inkpen

They suit tall buildings, steep or large roofs and roofs that are hard to see from the ground. They’re useful where walking on the roof could damage it or isn’t safe. You get close-up views without anyone setting foot on the roof. Before the visit, we check the address for any airspace restrictions that apply. We will tell you if another approach would work better. We survey flat roofs on upper floors, tall and steep roofs and fragile roofs, and people most frequently book us about slipped or missing slates on a high roof and ponding and splits on a high flat roof.

Older buildings in small places like Inkpen may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from the air or with a thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof, so it’s a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

Where we cannot see part of the roof, the report says so. You will know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

How the survey works

When we arrive, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you’d like to know. After that, we check everything we can see safely, using the ground, windows, the loft and a drone where it applies. Most surveys take about 1–2 hours for a house, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Older roofs in small places like Inkpen can have low, tight loft spaces, so it is useful to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.

  1. We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
  2. We arrange any permission that is needed before we fly.
  3. On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
  4. We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
  5. You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

How the survey changes by roof type

Ridges and hips

Wind lifts loose ridge and hip tiles. Finding them early keeps them from coming down.

Steep slate and tile slopes

Steep slopes are hard to inspect safely on foot. A drone photographs them closely from a safe position.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

It’s useful to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us as you book and it will help the survey.

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

Do you need a drone roof survey in Inkpen?

Hidden gutters and valleys are easy to overlook. Leaves, silt and plant growth build up unseen, until water overflows inside. From above, they’re easy to see.

Look out for signs like these:

  • Loose ridge and hip tiles
  • Storm damage on steep or tall roofs
  • Flashings that have come away
  • Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack

Stargroves lies about 3.2 miles south-east, so building around Inkpen goes back a long way. Aerial photos and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it.

What a good roof survey covers

What a drone roof survey looks like in Inkpen

Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles, with flat-roofed extensions, dormers and garages common everywhere. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from the ground, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons.

The streets around a church like Church of St Michael are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. Anyone responsible for a site like Inkpen Primary School will know that thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

What happens if roof problems are left?

Faults on high roofs tend to be found late. By then, timbers, ceilings and insulation may be wet. A drone survey finds them sooner. For older village homes like those around Inkpen, the right replacement materials aren’t always easy to find quickly. That’s one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.

Every price we give includes VAT, and the report is not charged as an extra. Prices start from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

FAQs for Inkpen

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Inkpen?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.

Will you come out to Inkpen?

Yes, we do. We survey roofs across London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.

Do drone rules differ in central London?

Central London has restricted areas where NATS permission is needed. Where we can’t fly, we use other safe vantage points.

Are you structural engineers?

No. We note visible signs such as sagging or deflection, but we do not carry out calculations or give an engineer’s opinion. If we think you need an engineer, the report says so.

How experienced are you?

We have more than 20 years’ experience and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys.

Will the drone film my neighbours?

The camera stays on your roof. We only survey what the owner has asked us to. If your roof is shared, it is useful to tell your neighbours about the visit.

Can a drone see inside my loft?

No. It photographs the outside, not the inside. The roof space is checked separately, where there is safe access, as damp and daylight often show there first.
