Need a drone roof survey in Brimpton Common?

Can I check my roof myself?

Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight.

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

Drone roof survey in Brimpton Common

A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it can’t see under the coverings or into the loft. We check the loft from inside where it’s safe, because the underside tells its own story. Inside and out together tell you far more. The report sets out what the drone showed and what we found inside. If there’s no safe loft access, the report says so. Typical surveys look at moss and weeds taking hold up top and slipped or missing slates on a high roof, on chimney stacks, valleys and parapet gutters and large and complex roofs.

Somewhere as small as Brimpton Common, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Weather and airspace are checked before the visit. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

How fast the report arrives depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

Our packages start from £150, with VAT included. What you pay for your roof depends on:

  • The roof’s overall size
  • The shape of the roof and its details
  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own

We offer three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, with VAT included. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

What to tell us when you get in touch

You don’t need to know any roofing terms. It’s enough to let us know:

  • Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window
  • Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
  • What made you get in touch
  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block

If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Take them safely from the ground or a window; never climb up to get a better view. To get started, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Airspace, weather and Brimpton Common roofs

If your home is older, it is worth knowing whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before planning roof work. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, and councils can also use Article 4 directions to control changes in conservation areas. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile, and flat-roofed additions turn up almost everywhere. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from the ground, drone photos and thermal images add detail.

Anyone responsible for a site like The Hurst School will know that big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once. Take an older house close to Church of St Nicholas: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.

Different roofs, different checks

Valleys and parapet gutters

When a parapet outlet blocks, water can come inside. Outlets and any debris around them are photographed.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Felt frequently lasts around 15 to 20 years, EPDM rubber around 30 to 50 and GRP up to about 30. Photos show how the covering is wearing.

How it works

Where it is relevant and can be reached safely, the loft space is checked as well as the outside. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement. All in, the survey normally takes roughly 1–2 hours for most houses, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. In a hamlet or village like Brimpton Common, a postcode doesn’t always lead to the right gate, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is looked at, with permission requested if required.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
  5. The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.

Advice

Honest limits

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:

  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads
  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey

If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or email us and we will give you a straight answer. What a survey covers and does not.

What this survey covers

  • Large and complex roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Fragile roofs
  • Chimney stacks

Before and after the survey

Nothing here needs a ladder. Our suggestions:

  • Move stored items away from the hatch
  • Book early if you’re near an airport
  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
  • Shut pets inside while we fly

The Premium Survey includes an in-person consultation to talk through the photographs and findings. It is a chance to ask about anything in the report.

Every so often, look in the loft space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Photograph anything new.

Questions from Brimpton Common

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Brimpton Common?

We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Is Brimpton Common within the area you cover?

Yes, we do. Our area covers London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Do you take photos of the roof?

Yes. The report includes photos of what we found, so you can see each point for yourself.

Does the drone show the underside of the roof?

No. It photographs the outside, not the inside. For the underside, we check the loft where it can be reached safely.

What’s the best way to book?

To arrange a survey, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and tell us the address and what you need to know. We’ll confirm the price and agree a day with you.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

Visits run seven days a week in the daytime, which suits people who work during the week. Just say which days work for you.

Is this a RICS survey?

No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you will need a RICS survey as well.
