They suit tall buildings, steep or large roofs and roofs that are hard to see from the ground. They also suit fragile roofs that nobody should walk on. The roof is photographed without being disturbed. Ahead of the visit, we check the address for any airspace restrictions that apply. We’ll tell you if another approach would work better. Typical surveys look at storm damage on steep or tall roofs and flat roofs on upper floors that hold water, on chimney stacks, tall and steep roofs and flat roofs on upper floors.

Older buildings in small places like Frilsham may be listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof, before anyone decides what work it needs. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

Every survey ends with a written report, with photographs, emailed to you. It explains the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

Flying and imaging in Frilsham

Older buildings may be listed or sit in a conservation area. Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the council can say whether a street is in a conservation area. Re-roofing in different materials may need permission there. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Many roofs like these cannot be judged properly from the pavement, and that is where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place.

For site and facilities teams at buildings like Yattendon C.E. Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. For an older house near a landmark like Church of St Frideswide, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

What a survey costs

To price your survey, we check:

  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey

A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package you pick makes a difference too. We’ll give you the figure before anything is booked.

What we need to know

To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:

  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window
  • Whether there is a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
  • The kind of building and roof involved
  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside

Most bookings start with a short call: ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll ask a few questions about the roof. You will have a price before anything is arranged.

Roof by roof

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Outlets, edges and roof plant are common problem areas. We photograph them closely, as far as the flight allows.

Steep slate and tile slopes

Steep roofs are risky to walk on. A drone photographs them closely from a safe position.

How it works

Photos are taken throughout the visit, so the report shows exactly what we saw. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available. A typical visit takes between one and two hours on an ordinary house, or half a day or so for a commercial building. For a village or hamlet like Frilsham, the journey is planned in advance: let us know about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. On the day, we inspect whatever is safely visible, inside and out.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
  3. Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are looked at.
  4. Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
  5. We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Make sure the loft hatch can be reached
  • Point out any leaks or damp patches
  • Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at

Advice

Frilsham questions

Is my home in Frilsham listed or in a conservation area?

We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Is Frilsham within the area you cover?

We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.

Are you structural engineers?

No. Visible signs such as deflection or sagging are recorded, but we do not provide calculations or an engineer’s opinion. The report will say if you need an engineer.

Can the drone do thermal imaging?

Not as part of the drone survey, which is about close-up photos. Thermal imaging is a separate check in the Premium Survey, and its findings are checked with moisture readings.

How much is a survey?

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Our Basic Survey starts from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all with VAT included.

How do I book a survey in Frilsham?

It is easiest to phone 07833 053749 or email us. Give us the address and a few details about the roof, and we’ll recommend the right survey. Surveys run seven days a week.

Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?

Visits run seven days a week in the daytime. Just say which days work for you.

What we cannot see

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so there are some things a survey cannot cover:

  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
  • Flights in strong wind or heavy rain
  • Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will tell you. What our survey covers.

What this survey covers

  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Fragile roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors

Tips from our surveys

A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Tips:

  • Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
  • Expect us to rearrange if it is too windy or wet
  • Check the loft can be reached
  • Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof

Keep the photos with your property records. They’re a useful baseline for future surveys.

Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Comparing surveys shows what is wearing, so small faults are dealt with early.
