Airspace, weather and Woodlands St Mary roofs
Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles, and flat-roofed additions turn up almost everywhere. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that is where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons.
Take an older house close to St Mary's Church: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help. Whatever the street in Woodlands St Mary, a roof costs least to look after when faults are caught early.

Drone roof survey in Woodlands St Mary
Neighbours’ privacy matters on every flight. We keep the camera on the roof we’re surveying, not on gardens or windows next door. If your roof is shared, a word with next door beforehand helps. We survey the roof you’ve asked us to look at. Flights are kept as short as the job allows and focused on the roof in question. If you’re worried about outlets choked with leaves and silt and lifted or split lead flashings, we can find out what’s behind it.
In a small place like Woodlands St Mary, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent.

How we price drone roof surveys
To price your survey, we look at:
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
- Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
- House, block, shop or office
One thing that affects the price is the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all including VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.
Getting in touch
These details help when you contact us:
- Whether there’s a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
- The address and postcode of the property
- Your timetable, such as an exchange date
Not sure which survey you need? It’s easiest to call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and describe the roof and what’s worrying you. We’ll talk you through the options and what they cost.
What this survey can’t tell you
We only report whatever is safely visible on the day, so there are some things a survey cannot cover:
- Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
- Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)
- Flights in strong wind or heavy rain
If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or email us and we will point you to the right survey. What a survey covers and does not.
What this survey covers
- Large and complex roofs
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Fragile roofs
- Tall and steep roofs
- Chimney stacks
- Flat roofs on upper floors
For landlords and managing agents

We survey roofs for landlords and letting agents as well as homeowners. The report gives you a dated record of the roof, with photographs, useful for planning maintenance.

Woodlands St Mary: your questions answered
Are there drone restrictions around Woodlands St Mary?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying.
How do I find out if my home in Woodlands St Mary is listed?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.
Will you go up on the roof?
Not unless it is safe. Safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where it applies cover most of what’s needed.
Does someone need to be in?
If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. Access is agreed with you when booking.
Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?
We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day, which suits people who work during the week. Just say which days work for you.
Is this an asbestos survey?
No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but only a specialist asbestos surveyor can confirm it. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.
What’s in the report?
It explains what we saw, what it means and what we’d suggest, with photos throughout. It also says if any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, so you know exactly what was covered.
Why it’s worth a survey now in Woodlands St Mary
Photographing a roof from the air does not touch it. Fragile slates and tiles stay as they are, so you see the roof exactly as it is. In a place like Woodlands St Mary, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. A quick look before winter can save a lot.
The cost of a survey depends on the roof: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how safely it can be seen. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT.

How it works
The visit usually starts outside and finishes in the loft: outside views come first, then the roof space if there’s safe access. In total, it takes about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Older roofs in small places like Woodlands St Mary can have low, tight loft spaces, so let us know about the loft hatch and any ladder. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
- Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
- Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
- We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
- Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- If you’re buying, let the agent know when we’re coming
- Let us know about parking near the property
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
