Drone roof surveys near Leverton

How it works

The aim of the visit is simple: to see as much of the roof as can be seen safely and record it clearly. Notes and photos go into the written report. It typically takes between one and two hours for most houses; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. In a hamlet or village like Leverton, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.

  1. First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
  2. We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
  3. The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it’s checked too.
  5. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.

Drone roof survey in Leverton

They suit tall buildings, steep or large roofs and roofs that are hard to see from ground level. They’re useful where walking on the roof could damage it or isn’t safe, such as old slate, clay tiles or cement sheets. The roof is photographed without being disturbed. Before the visit, we check the address for any airspace restrictions that apply. If a drone isn’t the right tool, we will say so. We’re often asked to look into standing water on a flat roof and vegetation in valleys and gutters, across large and complex roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and valleys and parapet gutters.

In a small place like Leverton, open ground can mean strong wind. Strong wind or a downpour stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent, whichever applies.

What we can’t see

This is not a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:

  • Close-up photos of next door’s property
  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly

If you’re not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we will give you a straight answer. The full list of what we check.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Large and complex roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Fragile roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs

DIY checks: what’s safe

Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and a fall can be serious. That is where a survey comes in.

Questions from Leverton

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Leverton?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying.

Is my home in Leverton listed or in a conservation area?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day. Let us know your preferred days as you book.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. We check the parts we are given access to.

What insurance do you have?

Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.

What if it rains on the day?

It can, depending on the survey. Drone flights need calm, dry weather, and thermal imaging works best with a dry roof, little wind and a sunny day beforehand. If the conditions aren’t right, we will talk to you about another date.

Will you walk on the roof?

Not unless it is safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where applicable, a drone.

Flying and imaging in Leverton

With Ramsbury Manor about 4.6 miles west, Leverton sits in an area with a long building history. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions.

For an older house near a landmark like Church of St Mary, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image.

When to book a survey in Leverton

Strong winds can lift slates, tiles and ridge pieces. Damage on a high or steep roof is hard to judge from the garden. Close-up photos make it clear what has been disturbed.

A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:

  • Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
  • Outlets choked with leaves and silt
  • Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
  • Damage after a storm that cannot be seen from below

Anyone responsible for a site like Chilton Foliat Church of England Primary School will know that a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
  • Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
  • Whether the loft is part of the inspection
  • What exactly goes into their report

Practical tips

A little preparation and a few simple habits help. Our tips:

  • Allow for a change of day in poor weather
  • Let us know what you want to see
  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
  • Check the loft can be reached

We email the report to you, with close-up photos from the flight. Findings are set out in plain English, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.

Have leaves and moss cleared from gutters, valleys and outlets, particularly in autumn. On tall buildings, use a professional with the right access equipment. Blocked hidden gutters cause many leaks.
