Drone roof survey in Hamstead Marshall: what you get
From the air, the outer surfaces are clear, but it cannot see inside. We check the loft from inside where it’s safe, because the underside tells its own story. Inside and out together tell you far more. Your report shows the drone photos alongside what we saw in the loft. If there’s no safe loft access, the report says so. We survey valleys and parapet gutters, large and complex roofs and fragile roofs, and people most often book us about moss and weeds taking hold up top and wind damage high on the roof.
In a small place like Hamstead Marshall, open ground can mean strong wind. High wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
Every survey ends with a written report, with photos, sent by email. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

Roof by roof
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Outlets, edges and roof plant are common problem areas. We photograph them closely.
Large commercial roofs
Large commercial roofs cover a lot of ground. The drone covers the roof area by area.
Practical tips
A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Some tips:
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
- Let us know the exact address when you book
- Allow for a change of day in poor weather
- Check the loft can be reached
If you need work done, roofers can work from the photos. The photos show the location and extent of every problem, so their quotes cover the same ground.
Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Take photos of any changes.
Drone roof surveys in Hamstead Marshall: local notes
Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles, with flat-roofed extensions, dormers and garages common everywhere. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these. Benham Park, about 2.1 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Hamstead Marshall. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters.
Anyone responsible for a site like Enborne C.E. Primary School will know that thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. If you live in an older home near Church of St Mary, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

What happens if roof problems are left?
Photos from a drone survey show how the roof looks today. Next time, you can compare and see what has moved or worn. It helps when you plan ahead. Older cottages and farmhouses around Hamstead Marshall can have roof timbers that have been there a very long time, where water from a failed roof can cause rot if it’s left.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Hamstead Marshall
Do you cover smaller places like Hamstead Marshall?
Yes, we do. We work right across London and the South East, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it’s useful to know about access.
Are there drone restrictions around Hamstead Marshall?
It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
Will you check the loft?
Yes, where the survey calls for it and there’s safe access. We look for staining, damp, daylight and signs of movement, as far as the space allows.
How soon will I get the report?
The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. All of them come by email, ready to forward.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first, with the freeholder or managing agent. Let us know about it when you book and we will plan the survey around it.
How many surveys have you done?
We’ve been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys across London and the South East.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. This is a survey of the roof only, and it isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. Many buyers have both.
What we do, step by step
Where it’s relevant and can be reached safely, the loft space is checked as well as the outside. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging, as far as the space allows. All in, the survey usually takes roughly 1–2 hours at a typical home, and longer for a large or complex roof. Rural addresses near Hamstead Marshall can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
- Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
- Where there’s safe access, we check the loft as well.
- Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.
Before the survey
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
- Let us know about parking near the property
- Make sure we can get to the back of the property

Advice
For landlords and managing agents
We survey roofs for letting agents and landlords as well as householders. The report gives you a dated record of the roof, with photos.
We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords, from shops and offices to industrial units. Bigger roofs take more time, so they’re priced to suit.
