Drone roof survey in East Garston

Before any flight, we check the airspace. Near protected airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, flight restriction zones mean permission is needed first. Parts of central London have restricted areas too, where NATS permission is needed. If we cannot fly, we use other safe vantage points instead and tell you. Prison sites also have drone restriction zones. If you’re worried about vegetation in valleys and gutters and lead work pulling away at abutments, a survey will tell you what’s going on.

In a village or hamlet like East Garston, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from ground level. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

Report times depend on the survey you book: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

What a drone roof survey looks like in East Garston

Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates, with flat-roofed extensions, dormers and garages common everywhere. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.

For any home in East Garston, it’s the small, early fault that is cheapest to put right. If you live in an older home near Church of All Saints, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that is where a view by drone or thermal camera helps.

How it works

We don’t take risks to get a closer look. Everything that can safely be seen is inspected, and anything we can’t see is noted in the report. The survey usually takes between one and two hours on an ordinary house, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Cottages and farmhouses around East Garston often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.

  1. We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
  2. We arrange any permission that is needed before we fly.
  3. Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
  4. The sub-250g drone takes close-up photos of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
  5. Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.

Before the survey

Advice

East Garston questions

Is my home in East Garston listed or in a conservation area?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.

Will you come out to East Garston?

We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. Asbestos surveys and sampling aren’t something we do. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it is disturbed.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Not unless it’s safe. Safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where it applies cover most of what’s needed, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.

Can a drone see inside my loft?

No. It sees only the outer surfaces. Leaks, damp timbers and condensation often show first from inside, so we inspect the roof space as well where access is safe.

Can the drone do thermal imaging?

Not as part of the drone survey, which is about close-up photos. Thermal imaging is a separate check in the Premium Survey, and its findings are checked with moisture readings.

Can you survey a roof inside a flight restriction zone?

Near airports like Heathrow, Gatwick, London City and Stansted, flight restriction zones apply. We check your address and ask for permission where it is required. If it is not given, we inspect by other means.

Useful tips for East Garston property owners

These tips come from what we see on roofs every week:

  • Let us know about any leaks or concerns
  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
  • Keep dogs indoors during the visit
  • Check there’s room outside for the drone to take off

We email the report to you, including the close-up photos taken by the drone. Findings are set out in plain English, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.

Every so often, look in the loft space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Take photos of any changes.

Why act early in East Garston

On a tall building, problems are often found only when water comes in. By then, timbers, ceilings and insulation may be wet. A drone survey finds them sooner. For older village homes like those around East Garston, the right replacement materials aren’t always easy to find quickly. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.

There are three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you need to know.

What we look for on each type of roof

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Flat roof coverings wear out at different rates. Photos show how the covering is wearing.

Ridges and hips

Ridges may be bedded in mortar or mechanically fixed. Their condition is noted in the report.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses

Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too, including offices, shops and units. Bigger roofs take more time, so they’re priced to suit.

Roof problems in a rented home affect tenants as well as the building. A survey shows what needs attention, so you can plan the work.

How we price drone roof surveys

To price your survey, we check:

  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages

One thing that affects the price is the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.

What we need to know

Before you get in touch, it’s useful to have:

  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
  • Anything about access we should know
  • Any marks or damp showing indoors
  • Your timetable, such as an exchange date
