How the survey works

After the inspection, everything we found is written up in a report with photographs, emailed to you. As for time on site, it typically takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Somewhere as small as Downend, access is frequently the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
  3. We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we’re surveying.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it is checked too.
  5. You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.

Drone roof survey in Downend: what you get

Drone roof surveys are available in Downend and throughout London and the South East, where the airspace and the weather allow. We fly seven days a week. Every address is checked for airspace restrictions first. The report includes the drone photos and our recommendations. To ask whether a drone survey suits your roof, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address. If you’ve noticed plant growth and moss on the roof and hidden gutters full of leaves, we can find out what’s behind it.

In a small place like Downend, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

Nothing in the report is left vague: where something needs attention, it says so plainly, along with how urgent it is.

Checking the roof from the ground

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Don’t go up yourself.

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Downend

Big commercial and industrial roofs cover a lot of ground. A drone can photograph a large roof methodically. That gives a clearer picture of the roof as a whole.

Typical things we’re asked to look at include:

  • Wind damage high on the roof
  • Cracked mortar along the ridge
  • Plant growth and moss on the roof
  • Flashings that have come away

Take a building like Chieveley Primary School: thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
  • What exactly goes into their report
  • Their insurance cover

How we price drone roof surveys

Several things affect the price of a survey:

  • The use of thermal imaging or a drone
  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
  • Building height and the viewpoints available

Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package matters as well. The price is always agreed first.

Helping us price your survey

You don’t need to know any roofing terms. It’s enough to tell us:

  • What made you get in touch
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is
  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
  • When you need the report by

Getting a price is simple: just call 07833 053749 or use the contact form, tell us about the property and we’ll explain which survey suits. The price is agreed up front.

Leave it or get it looked at?

Photos from a drone survey show how the roof looks today. Comparing them with later photos shows what has changed. It helps when you plan ahead. Older and listed buildings around Downend may need consent and matching materials for repairs, so a defect found early gives time to plan the work properly.

What we look for on each type of roof

Valleys and parapet gutters

When a parapet outlet blocks, water can come inside. We check outlets and photograph any build-up.

Ridges and hips

The ridge takes wind from both sides. A drone shows cracked mortar and loose ridge tiles.

Questions from Downend

Is Downend within the area you cover?

We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Downend?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

When does the report arrive?

The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. All of them come by email, ready to forward.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

Surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To find a day that suits you, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning. Mention it when you contact us and we will plan the survey around it.

Does the report include photographs?

Yes. Photographs are taken throughout the survey, and the report uses them to show each finding alongside our recommendations.

Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?

No. Our survey is a roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey of the whole building. It focuses on the roof, so it sits alongside a building survey rather than replacing it.
