How a drone roof survey works in World's End
Drone roof surveys are available in World's End and throughout London and South East England, subject to airspace checks and the weather. Flights take place on weekdays and at weekends. We check the airspace for your address before booking a flight. You get a written report with close-up photographs and recommendations. To ask whether a drone survey suits your roof, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address. We’re often asked to look into moss and weeds taking hold up top and hidden gutters full of leaves, on tall and steep roofs, large and complex roofs and valleys and parapet gutters.
Somewhere as small as World's End, older roofs are frequently steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent, whichever applies.

How we price drone roof surveys
A few things affect what a survey costs:
- Whether it is a home or a commercial building
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
- Roof area
One thing that affects the price is the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, inc. VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.
What to tell us when you contact us
We’ll typically ask about:
- Where the property is, with the postcode
- Whether there’s a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
- Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
- The type of building and roof, like pitched or flat
If you’re buying, it is useful to book soon after your offer is accepted, so there’s time to use the report before exchange. For any other survey, just ring 07833 053749 or send us an email when you’re ready.
Before and after the survey
Here are a few things we’d tell any owner:
- Check there is room outside for the drone to take off
- Expect a little longer if permission is needed
- Expect us to rearrange if it is too windy or wet
- Shut pets inside while we fly
With the Premium Survey, the report arrives the same day. Drone photos are included where we could fly, alongside the other checks in the package.
Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Comparing surveys shows what is wearing, and early repairs keep water out.
What we do, step by step
We don’t take risks to get a closer look. Everything that can safely be seen is inspected, and if part of the roof cannot be seen, the report says so. The survey typically takes an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Older rural homes like those around World's End can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.
- First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
- A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
- The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
- If the loft can be reached safely, it is checked too.
- Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.
Preparing for the visit
- Let us know about parking near the property
- Check the loft hatch can be reached
- Make sure we can get to the back of the property

Advice
Should I look at the roof myself first?
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
You can learn a lot from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.

Common questions in World's End
Does a conservation area affect roof work in World's End?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Will you come out to World's End?
We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes, as long as access is agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is often shared, so we need permission from the building owner or managing agent. We can only inspect what we are given access to.
What does a roof survey cost?
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Our three packages are Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, with VAT included.
Does your drone take thermal images?
Our drone takes close-up photographs of the roof. Thermal imaging is a separate check, included in our Premium Survey.
How many surveys have you done?
We have completed more than 5,000 surveys, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, with 98% customer satisfaction.
Are you structural engineers?
No. Visible signs like deflection or sagging are recorded, but we don’t provide calculations or an engineer’s opinion. The report will say if you need an engineer.
Drones, thermal imaging and World's End roofs
An older home may be listed, or stand in a conservation area. Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the council can say whether a street is in a conservation area. In either case, a change of roofing material may need consent. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons.
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Beedon C.E. (Controlled) Primary School, big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Nicholas, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

Roof by roof
Large commercial roofs
Cement sheet roofs on buildings from before 2000 may contain asbestos. We do not test for it, but we flag it so a specialist asbestos surveyor can check.
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Flat roof coverings wear out at different rates. We record the signs of age we can see.
Leave it or get it looked at?
Small defects on a high roof grow with each storm. Finding them now means less to put right. In a place like World's End, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. It is worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.
Every price we give includes VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.
