Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Mortimer West End
Our price is from £400, including VAT. A drone inspection, where applicable, is also part of our Premium Survey, with a same-day report, structural analysis and an in-person consultation. It also includes a follow-up after 12 months. We will tell you if a drone isn’t the right tool for your roof. Every drone survey comes with a written report and close-up photographs. If you’ve noticed coverings that have slipped high up on the roof and flat roofs on upper floors that hold water, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.
Somewhere as small as Mortimer West End, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from the ground. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first, and the journey is planned ahead of time. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
After the visit, you get a written report with photographs, emailed to you. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

What a drone roof survey doesn’t cover
We only report whatever is safely visible on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:
- Roofs and gardens beyond the one we’re surveying
- A flight on a day when the weather isn’t safe
- Flights in a restricted zone without permission
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or email us and we will tell you. What a survey covers and does not.
What we look at
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Large and complex roofs
- Chimney stacks
- Tall and steep roofs
- Fragile roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
Checking the roof from ground level
Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
The survey, step by step
Every visit follows the same pattern: we listen to what’s been worrying you, inspect the roof from every safe vantage point, photograph what we find and record our findings for the written report. It normally takes between one and two hours at a typical home, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Cottages and farmhouses around Mortimer West End frequently have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we cannot see is noted.
- You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
- If permission is needed, we ask for it before the visit.
- We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
- The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
- Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.
How to prepare
- Clear the way to the loft hatch
- Let us know where we can park nearby
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
How to book
Our price is from £400, including VAT. The exact figure depends on the roof and the package, so call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the details.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Mortimer West End
Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from ground level, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons.
Stratfield Saye House, about 4.3 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Mortimer West End. Photos from the air and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it. If your house is among the older ones in the streets near The Parish Church of St.Saviours, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image. Anyone responsible for a site like Silchester Church of England Primary School will know that big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.

Tips from our surveys
From years of surveys, a few habits stand out as worth the effort:
- Check there’s room outside for the drone to take off
- Allow time for permission if you are in a flight restriction zone
- Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
- Expect us to rearrange if it’s too windy or wet
File the report and photos with your home documents. They give you something to compare against later, and they help if you sell.
Look at the roof from the ground after strong winds. Debris in the garden is a sign to act on. A drone survey can show what has shifted.
Why get it checked now?
Faults on high roofs tend to be found late. By then, timbers, ceilings and insulation may be wet. Looking from above picks up the early signs. Outbuildings and barns around Mortimer West End are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. It is worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.
The cost of a survey depends on the roof: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how it can be reached and seen safely. Prices start from £400, including VAT.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Mortimer West End
Are there drone restrictions around Mortimer West End?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
Will you come out to Mortimer West End?
We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.
How soon will I get the report?
Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24–48 hours and Premium reports on the same day. Each one is emailed, ready to forward.
Do you look in the roof space?
If the survey needs it and the loft space can be reached safely, yes. Please clear anything stored under the hatch.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. We are roof surveyors, not structural engineers, and it doesn’t include calculations. If we see signs that need an engineer’s opinion, we’ll recommend one.
Do I need to be at home?
Not necessarily. If we only need the outside, we can agree that in advance, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.
Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?
We’re covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.
