Drone roof survey in Rickling Green, Essex
Find out the condition of the roof at your property in Rickling Green. Visits run on weekdays and weekends, in the daytime.
- Cracked mortar along the ridge
- Hidden gutters full of leaves
- Plant growth and moss on the roof
Before and after the survey
Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out:
- Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
- Allow time for permission if you’re in a flight restriction zone
- Allow for a change of day in poor weather
- Shut pets inside while we fly
The Premium Survey report comes the same day. Drone photos are included where we could fly, alongside the other checks in the package.
Look at the roof from the ground after strong winds. Debris in the garden is a sign to act on. A drone survey can show what has shifted.
About our drone roof survey in Rickling Green
Every flight starts with an airspace check. Flight restriction zones around airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick and London City need permission from the airport or air traffic control. Parts of central London have restricted areas too, where NATS permission is needed. If we can’t fly, we use other safe vantage points instead and tell you. Prisons have their own drone restriction zones too. We’re often asked to look into blistered or cracked flat roof coverings and gaps where slates or tiles have gone, on fragile roofs, large and complex roofs and flat roofs on upper floors.
Villages like Rickling Green frequently stand in open country, where wind can be strong. High wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.
It is not only a list of defects. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend.

How the survey works
Before we start, tell us why you’ve booked: buying, a leak, storm damage, new work or just wanting to know where things stand. It helps us focus on what matters most to you. Most visits take between one and two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Around Rickling Green, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it’s useful to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it is safe.
- We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
- Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
- We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
- We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
- Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
Book a survey
Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so there is time to use the report before exchange. For any other survey, just ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form when you are ready.

Questions from Rickling Green
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Rickling Green?
The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. The flight restriction zone around Stansted Airport comes within about 2 miles of Rickling Green. The exact boundary is checked for each address before any flight, and a roof inside it needs permission before we fly. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour.
Will you come out to Rickling Green?
We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.
What’s the best way to book?
To book, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We’ll confirm the price and agree a day with you.
Are you structural engineers?
No. We note visible signs such as sagging or deflection, but we do not carry out calculations or give an engineer’s opinion. If we think you need an engineer, the report says so.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Only where it’s safe to do so. We check everything that can safely be seen: from the ground, from windows, from inside the loft space, from the roof where it is safe and by drone where applicable. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.
Can you survey in bad weather?
Light rain doesn’t normally stop a survey. High wind or heavy rain can stop drone flights and make roof access unsafe, so we’ll agree a new date if the weather isn’t suitable.
When does the report arrive?
Report times are set by the package. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. If you have a deadline, such as an exchange date, let us know as you book.
Drones, thermal imaging and Rickling Green roofs
Rickling Green is about 2 miles from the edge of the flight restriction zone around Stansted Airport. The exact boundary is checked for each address before any flight, and a roof inside it needs permission before we fly. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.
Take an older house close to Church of Quendon: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps.

Steep and tall roofs are hard to inspect safely. Three-storey houses, blocks of flats and tall commercial buildings are common examples. We fly from the ground and bring the camera close to the roof.
It’s worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:
- Wind damage high on the roof
- Slipped or missing slates on a high roof
- Vegetation in valleys and gutters
- Worn lead at chimneys and walls

Why act early in Rickling Green
Leaving a slipped slate or a blocked valley can turn a small fault into a leak. Finding them now means less to put right, whatever height the roof is. In a small place like Rickling Green, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
Prices quoted always include VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.

Can I check my roof myself?
What you cannot do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.
You can learn a lot from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.
