Drone Roof Survey in Row Green
We carry out drone roof surveys in Row Green and the rest of Essex. Surveys run seven days a week.
- Worn lead at chimneys and walls
- Standing water on a flat roof
- Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack
Before and after the survey
Nothing here needs a ladder. A few suggestions:
- Make sure there’s room outside for the drone to take off
- Book early if you are near an airport
- Allow for a change of day in poor weather
- Let us know the exact address as you book
The Premium Survey report comes the same day. It includes the drone photos where a flight was possible.
Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Comparing surveys shows what is wearing, and early repairs keep water out.
About our drone roof survey in Row Green
A drone can see more than your roof, so we take care. The camera stays on your roof, not on neighbouring homes and gardens. If your roof is joined to a neighbour’s, it is worth letting them know about the visit. We survey the roof you’ve asked us to look at. Each flight is kept short and stays focused on the roof we are there to survey. If you’ve noticed cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots and blistered or cracked flat roof coverings, a survey will tell you what’s going on.
Somewhere as small as Row Green, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Weather and airspace are looked at before the visit. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. You’ll know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

Common roof problems in Row Green
Hidden gutters and valleys are easy to overlook. Debris collects where nobody looks, until it causes a leak inside. From above, they’re easy to see.
People normally book a survey after spotting something like this:
- Debris building up in hidden gutters
- Slates or tiles shifted by high winds
- Vegetation in valleys and gutters
- Flashings that have come away
If you look after a building such as White Court School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- How they plan to inspect the roof safely
- Will the report include photos?
- Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
- Whether the price includes VAT
Different roofs, different checks
Chimney stacks
Chimney tops are hard to see from the ground. Close-up photos show the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings, so cracks and gaps are clear.
Valleys and parapet gutters
A butterfly roof drains to a central valley gutter. You can’t see it from the street at all, but it’s plain to see from the air.

Should I look at the roof myself first?
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.
You can learn a lot from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please do not climb up for a closer look.
Drones, thermal imaging and Row Green roofs
The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight. England has around 10,000 conservation areas and about 500,000 listed buildings. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, so check with the council.
Take an older house close to The Church in Great Notley: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Row Green
Is drone flying allowed in Row Green?
The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.
How do I find out if my home in Row Green is listed?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
What happens next?
You receive the written report by email, with photographs and recommendations. It’s yours to share with a seller, insurer, roofer or managing agent, whichever applies.
What does the report include?
It sets out what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, backed by photographs. It also says if any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, so you know exactly what was covered.
Will you go up on the roof?
Not always. Safety comes first, and fragile or steep roofs can’t always be walked on. We use safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where applicable.
Do you need to get into the loft?
If there’s a loft and safe access to it, yes. From inside, the underside of the roof often shows damp, staining or daylight that cannot be seen from outside.
How experienced are you?
More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years, across London and South East England.
Landlord and commercial surveys in Row Green
Letting agents frequently book on a landlord’s behalf, with the report sent to whoever needs it. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.
We survey roofs for landlords and agents as well as homeowners. A written report with photos gives you a clear record of the roof.
How the survey works
Photos are taken throughout the visit, so you can see in the report what we found and where. We take close-ups from wherever is safe. Most surveys take roughly 1–2 hours for most houses, or half a day or so for a commercial building. Somewhere as small as Row Green, access is often the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Weekday and weekend visits are available.
- You give us the address and let us know about the roof.
- Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
- Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are checked.
- The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
- The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.
Before we arrive
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
- Point out any leaks or damp patches
- If you’re buying, let the agent know when we’re coming
