How a drone roof survey works in Sarratt

Some roofs are hard or unsafe to reach. A drone takes close-up photographs of those roofs from the air. You see slates, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters in detail, including slopes that can’t be seen from the street. The photos go into a written report. It also suits roofs that would be damaged by someone walking on them. If we cannot fly, we tell you why. We survey tall and steep roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and large and complex roofs, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack and lifted or split lead flashings.

In a small place like Sarratt, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

FAQs for Sarratt

Is Sarratt within the area you cover?

We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Sarratt?

Typically it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Will you walk on the roof?

Only where it is safe to do so. We check everything that can safely be seen: from ground level, from windows and vantage points, from the roof space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where it applies. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.

When does the report arrive?

That depends on the survey you book: the Basic Survey report arrives within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey the same day. The report is emailed to you.

What will the report tell me?

Written findings with photos, covering the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend. Standard adds moisture detection and a structural check; Premium adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable and structural analysis.

What does a roof survey cost?

Prices start from £400, including VAT. Our Basic Survey starts from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all with VAT included.

What happens after the survey?

We email you the written report with photos and recommendations. You can use it to talk to a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent, whichever applies.

Roof by roof

Chimney stacks

From the air, a lean or a loose pot is easy to see. Each defect is photographed for the report.

Ridges and hips

Some ridges are fixed with mortar, others with dry-fix systems. We record what we see of their condition.

What happens on the day

Every roof is different; as a rough guide, the survey takes roughly 1–2 hours at most homes; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. You are welcome to ask questions while we’re there. Rural addresses near Sarratt can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.

  1. You give us the address and tell us about the roof.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is checked, with permission requested if required.
  3. On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
  4. Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Sarratt

In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile, with flat-roofed extensions, dormers and garages common everywhere. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that is where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions.

The streets around a church such as Church of the Holy Cross are often among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. Take a building like Sarratt Church of England Primary School: big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once. Chenies Manor House, about 1.8 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Sarratt. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey from above or with a thermal imager doesn’t touch the roof itself.

What affects the price in Sarratt

To price your survey, we check:

  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
  • Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
  • The roof’s overall size
  • How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages

For a price for your roof in Sarratt, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and let us know about the roof. We’ll confirm the figure before booking.

Booking your survey

Before you get in touch, it’s useful to have:

  • Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
  • The kind of building and roof involved
  • Where the property is, with the postcode
  • Any photos you have, taken from the ground or a window

Our price is from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the roof’s size, access and the package, so call 07833 053749 or email us with the details.

Practical tips

Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out as worth the effort:

  • Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
  • Let us know what you want to see
  • Keep dogs indoors during the visit
  • Book early if you are near an airport

If you need work done, roofers can work from the photos. They’ll see exactly where each defect is, so their quotes cover the same ground.

Look at the roof from ground level after strong winds. Pieces of slate or tile on the ground mean something has moved. A drone survey can show what has shifted.

What you can safely check yourself

You can learn a lot from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.

A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight.
