Drone roof surveys near Sheerness

Drone roof survey in Sheerness

Our price is from £400, including VAT. A drone inspection, where it applies, is also part of our Premium Survey, along with structural analysis, a same-day report and an in-person consultation. There’s a 12-month follow-up as well. If a drone won’t help on your roof, we’ll say so. You get a written report with the close-up photos from the flight. Typical surveys look at lead work pulling away at abutments and outlets choked with leaves and silt, across fragile roofs, large and complex roofs and tall and steep roofs.

Around Sheerness, older homes can have thin loft insulation and later additions with roofs of their own. Thermal patterns and close-up photos together give a fuller picture of the roof. Findings are checked with moisture readings where needed. Calm, dry weather suits both methods, so the date is set with the forecast in mind.

The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent.

What happens on the day

Once we have finished looking, we write up our findings as a report with photographs. As for time on site, most surveys take about one to two hours for most houses, and more on a big or complicated roof. Homes around Sheerness frequently have gardens on more than one side, which gives us room to step back and see the roof. Mention any side of the property we cannot get to. The loft, where there is safe access, completes the picture.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
  3. We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we’re surveying.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it is checked too.
  5. You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.

Before we arrive

Advice

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. The main factors are:

  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
  • The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
  • The size of the roof
  • Commercial roofs and larger buildings

Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so the price reflects that. The price is confirmed before you book.

Helping us price your survey

Before you get in touch, it helps to have:

  • Whether there is a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
  • The reason for the survey, like buying, a leak or storm damage
  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
  • The kind of building and roof involved

A quick phone call is normally the easiest start: ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email. You’ll have a price before anything is arranged.

What you can safely check yourself

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and a fall can be serious. That part is for a survey.

You can learn a lot from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.

Different roofs, different checks

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Outlets, edges and roof plant are common problem areas. They’re all captured in close-up, as far as the flight allows.

Ridges and hips

Ridges and hips are the most exposed parts of a pitched roof. From above, we can see loose ridges and missing mortar.

Leave it or get it looked at?

Small defects on a high roof grow with each storm. Finding them now means less to put right. Around Sheerness, a leak in an older house can soak into timbers and plaster, which is far harder to put right than the roof fault itself.

FAQs for Sheerness

Will you come out to Sheerness?

Yes. Sheerness is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our area covers London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.

How do I find out if my home in Sheerness is listed?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.

Is a drone roof survey a thermal survey?

Our drone survey is about close-up photos. Thermal imaging comes with the Premium Survey, as a separate check.

Are you structural engineers?

No. Visible signs such as deflection or sagging are recorded, but calculations and an engineer’s opinion are outside what we do. The report will say if you need an engineer.

What do I do with the report?

We email you the written report with photos and recommendations. It is yours to share with a seller, insurer, roofer or managing agent, whichever applies.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

We’ve completed more than 5,000 surveys, over more than 20 years, and 98% of clients are satisfied.

Are you insured?

Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability, and we can provide details if a managing agent needs them.

Drone roof surveys in Sheerness: local notes

Sheerness is within about 1 mile of the coast, where wind off the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain. Many older homes in Kent have handmade clay tiles, including Kent peg tiles held by pegs through two holes, and tile-hanging on their upper walls. You will also find oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses among the county’s older buildings. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up photos from the air and thermal images help.

For site and facilities teams at buildings like Rose Street Primary School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. The streets around a church such as Parish Church of the Holy Trinity are often among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps.

What we can’t see

We only report whatever is safely visible on the day, so there are some things a survey cannot cover:

  • Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)
  • Close-up photos of next door’s property
  • Flights in strong wind or heavy rain

If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll point you to the right survey. The full list of what we check.
