Drone roof survey in Stanborough

Drone roof surveys are available in Stanborough and throughout London and South East England, where the airspace and the weather allow. Flights take place on weekdays and at weekends. Every address is checked for airspace restrictions first. The report includes the drone photos and our recommendations. To ask whether a drone survey suits your roof, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address. We’re often asked to look into cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots and vegetation in valleys and gutters, across large and complex roofs, fragile roofs and valleys and parapet gutters.

In a village or hamlet like Stanborough, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from the ground. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

The report is written in plain words, so you don’t need to be a roofer to follow it. Each point is backed by a photograph where possible, with the urgent items made clear.

Can I check my roof myself?

A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level, and those are details a survey looks at closely.

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

Stanborough questions

Is Stanborough within the area you cover?

Yes, we do. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

How do I find out if my home in Stanborough is listed?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

Is your drone operator registered?

Yes, we are. Our Flyer ID and Operator ID come from the CAA, and we fly a drone that weighs under 250g.

How soon will I get the report?

Report times are set by the package. Basic: within 48 hours. Standard: 24 to 48 hours. Premium: the same day. If you have a deadline, like an exchange date, let us know as you book.

Will I get photos?

Yes, plenty. Pictures sit next to the findings they show.

Can you give me structural calculations?

No. Our survey is not a structural engineer’s report. We will recommend an engineer if we see signs that call for one.

What if my home is near an airport?

Near airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick, London City and Stansted, flight restriction zones apply. We check your address and ask for permission where it is required. If we can’t fly, we use other safe vantage points.

Common roof problems in Stanborough

Not every roof can take a person’s weight. Older slates and tiles break easily, and fragile sheet roofs are dangerous to walk on. With a drone, the roof is photographed without anyone stepping on it.

We are often asked to look at:

  • Slates or tiles shifted by high winds
  • Vegetation in valleys and gutters
  • Flat roofs on upper floors that hold water
  • Lead work pulling away at abutments

If you look after a building such as Stanborough School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Questions to ask before you book

  • What insurance they carry
  • Whether the inside of the roof is included
  • How they plan to inspect the roof safely
  • What happens after the report arrives

What a good roof survey covers

Flying and imaging in Stanborough

Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.

Historic houses such as Hatfield House, about 2 miles south-east, show how far back building around Stanborough goes. For older roofs nearby, a look from above or with a thermal imager is a hands-off way to check condition. The streets around a church like Church of St John the Evangelist are often among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps.

Stanborough is about 2 miles south-west of Welwyn Garden City, in Hertfordshire. Wherever you are in Stanborough, we can carry out drone roof surveys at your property, on a weekday, Saturday or Sunday. Stanborough is one of the towns and villages in Hertfordshire we cover for drone roof surveys. For surveys nearby, see our London page.

How it works

Every roof is different, but as a rough guide the survey takes roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. If you have questions on the day, just ask. For a village or hamlet like Stanborough, the journey is planned ahead of time: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it is safe.

  1. First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
  2. Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
  3. We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
  4. The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
  5. We email a written report with the photographs and our recommendations.

Preparing for the visit

  • If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent
  • Show us where any leaks or stains appear
  • Make sure the loft hatch can be reached

For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait.

What affects the price in Stanborough

Survey packages start from £150, including VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on:

  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
  • Basic, Standard or Premium
  • House, block, shop or office
  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone

Our price is from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the size and height of the roof, how it can be seen safely and the package you choose.

Helping us price your survey

These details help when you contact us:

  • Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
  • The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
  • Dates you’re working to, such as exchange
  • Any marks or damp showing indoors

Our phone lines are open seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays. To book or ask a question, phone 07833 053749 or email us.

What happens if roof problems are left?

Photographing a roof from the air doesn’t touch it. Fragile slates and tiles stay as they are, so the survey doesn’t create new problems. For an older or listed building in a place like Stanborough, repairs may need matching materials and consent, so leaving a defect until it is urgent leaves less time to plan.

To find out what your survey will cost, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and a few details. The price is agreed before a date is set.
