Drone Roof Survey in Styants Bottom
Close-up drone photographs of roofs that are hard to reach in Styants Bottom, carried out by an experienced roof surveyor. You get a clear written report with photographs.
- Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
- Worn lead at chimneys and walls
- Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
Can I check my roof myself?
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date.
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Styants Bottom
Tall, steep, large or fragile roofs can’t always be inspected up close. Our drone roof survey gets a camera close to them without anyone climbing. It shows coverings, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters clearly, including slopes that cannot be seen from the street. The photos go into a written report. It also suits roofs that would be damaged by someone walking on them. Where a flight isn’t possible, we explain why. We’re often asked to look into cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots and plant growth and moss on the roof, on chimney stacks, valleys and parapet gutters and large and complex roofs.
In a small place like Styants Bottom, open ground can mean strong wind. High wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

Airspace, weather and Styants Bottom roofs
Handmade clay tiles, including Kent peg tiles hung on pegs through two holes, are typical of older Kent buildings. Oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses are part of the county’s older buildings too. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from ground level, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons.
If you look after a building like Ightham Primary School, big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once. Take an older house close to St Lawrence: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help. Ightham Mote lies about 1.9 miles south, so building around Styants Bottom goes back a long way. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey from above or with a thermal imager does not touch the roof itself.

What this survey cannot tell you
A survey is a proper look at the roof, but it can’t do everything. The main limits are:
- Photos in conditions too poor to fly
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
- What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll recommend the right survey. What our survey covers.
What this survey covers
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Fragile roofs
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Large and complex roofs
- Chimney stacks
- Tall and steep roofs
Different roofs, different checks
Steep slate and tile slopes
Steep slopes are hard to inspect safely on foot. From the air, every course of slates or tiles can be seen, showing slipped, cracked and missing pieces.
Chimney stacks
Leaning stacks and loose pots are easier to judge from above. Each defect is photographed for the report.
Questions from Styants Bottom
Is drone flying allowed in Styants Bottom?
Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.
Is Styants Bottom within the area you cover?
We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
We survey seven days a week: weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Tell us which days suit you when you book.
Does someone need to be in?
Not necessarily. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.
How many surveys have you done?
We have completed more than 5,000 surveys, across 20+ years of surveying roofs.
How long will you be at the property?
That depends on the size and shape of the roof; most visits take about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. The written report follows by email.
What’s the best way to book?
It’s easiest to phone 07833 053749 or email us. Give us the address and some details about the roof, and we’ll suggest the right survey. We survey seven days a week.
What happens on the day
We look at the roof from outside and, where it is relevant and there is safe access, from inside the roof space too. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement, as far as the space allows. The whole visit normally takes roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Around Styants Bottom, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it’s useful to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
- Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
- We also look inside the loft space where it’s safe.
- You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.
Before we arrive
- If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in
- Make sure the loft hatch can be reached
- Find any records of previous roof work
Arrange a survey
Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so there is time to use the report before exchange. Otherwise, simply call 07833 053749 or drop us an email whenever suits you.
Advice
Before and after the survey
Nothing here needs a ladder. Our suggestions:
- Allow time for permission if you are in a flight restriction zone
- Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
- Let us know the exact address when you book
- Keep pets indoors during the flight
The Premium Survey report comes the same day. Drone photos are included where we could fly.
Look at the roof from the ground after strong winds. Pieces of slate or tile on the ground mean something has moved. A drone survey can show what has shifted.
