Drone roof survey in Tewin

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. The Premium Survey includes a drone inspection where it applies, along with structural analysis, a same-day report and an in-person consultation. There’s a 12-month follow-up as well. If a drone won’t help on your roof, we’ll say so. You get a written report with the close-up photos from the flight. Typical surveys look at damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below and ridge and hip pieces working loose, across chimney stacks, fragile roofs and valleys and parapet gutters.

Older buildings in small places like Tewin may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from the air or with a thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care, before anyone decides what work it needs. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

You can share the report with anyone who needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent, whichever applies.

How the survey changes by roof type

Chimney stacks

Leaning stacks and loose pots are easier to judge from above. Each defect is photographed for the report.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Flat roof coverings wear out at different rates. We record the signs of age we can see.

Why act early in Tewin

Planning roof work without seeing the roof is a gamble. You get photos of every part we can see. That helps you put the work in order. Older cottages and farmhouses around Tewin can have roof timbers that have been there a very long time, and water through a failed covering can rot timber if it is left.

Every price we give includes VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Our price is from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

What you get with us

  • Drones and thermal imaging where applicable
  • Plain-English reports with photos
  • Insured for professional indemnity and public liability

Rented homes, blocks and businesses

For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan, putting the urgent items at the top.

We survey roofs for letting agents and landlords as well as householders. The report gives you a dated record of the roof, with photos.

What happens on the day

We work from the outside in: outside views come first, then the roof space if there is safe access. In total, it takes an hour or two on an ordinary house, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. For a village or hamlet like Tewin, the journey is planned ahead of time: let us know about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. On the day, we inspect what can be seen safely, inside and out.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
  3. On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
  4. Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
  5. We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at
  • Let us know about parking near the property
  • If you are buying, let the agent know when we’re coming

Advice

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Tewin

Are there drone restrictions around Tewin?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Tewin?

Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

Not necessarily. If we only need the outside, we can agree that beforehand, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.

Is it a structural engineer’s report?

No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs such as sagging are noted, but we don’t provide calculations or an engineer’s opinion. If one is needed, the report says so.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Not always. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where it applies let us see the rest, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.

What does the report include?

It works through the roof part by part, in writing and with photos, and ends with what we recommend. Points are put by urgency where it matters.

Can you survey in bad weather?

Some surveys depend on the weather more than others. Drones can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof and little wind. If the conditions are not right, we will talk to you about another date.

Checking the roof from the ground

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.

What you cannot do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That is where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.

Drone roof surveys around Tewin

Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons.

The streets around a church like Church of St Peter are often among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. Shop and office owners around Howard Centre may find that big, flat commercial roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images help most. With Digswell House about 2.1 miles west, the area around Tewin has a long history. A drone or thermal survey does not involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings.

What we can’t see

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:

  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission
  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will tell you before you book. The full list of what we check.
