Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Tylerscross
Some roofs are hard or unsafe to reach. A drone takes close-up photos of those roofs from the air. It shows coverings, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters clearly. Everything we find goes into a written report with photos. It also suits roofs that would be damaged by someone walking on them. Where a flight isn’t possible, we explain why. Typical surveys look at cracked mortar along the ridge and blistered or cracked flat roof coverings, on flat roofs on upper floors, fragile roofs and chimney stacks.
In a village or hamlet like Tylerscross, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from ground level. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
Report times depend on the survey you book: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

Airspace, weather and Tylerscross roofs
England has around 10,000 conservation areas and about 500,000 listed buildings. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, so check with the council. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.
For site and facilities teams at buildings like Water Lane Primary Academy, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

How the survey works
It’s useful to start with what’s prompted the survey: a purchase, a leak, a storm, new work or simply peace of mind. That way we can focus on what matters to you. The visit normally takes about 1–2 hours for most houses, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. Somewhere as small as Tylerscross, access is often the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.
- You give us the address and tell us about the roof.
- Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
- Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are checked.
- We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
- The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.
Before we arrive
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we are looking at
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
- Check the loft hatch can be reached
Arrange a survey
Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. Otherwise, simply ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email whenever suits you.

What else we do in Tylerscross
What we’re asked to look at in Tylerscross
Big commercial and industrial roofs cover a lot of ground. The drone covers the surface area by area, showing patterns of wear that are hard to spot up close. That gives a clearer picture of the roof as a whole.
Typical things we are asked to look at include:
- Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
- Lifted or split lead flashings
- Cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots
- Vegetation in valleys and gutters
If your house is among the older ones in the streets near Church of All Saints, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Tylerscross
Is Tylerscross within the area you cover?
Yes, Tylerscross is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Tylerscross?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.
Does the weather affect a drone survey?
The flight waits for better weather. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, so we’d move the date with you, or look from other safe viewpoints if you’d rather.
What does a roof survey cost?
Our price is from £400, including VAT. You will know the exact price before booking, and it depends on the roof’s size, access and the package you choose. To get a price, phone 07833 053749 or email us.
Does the drone show the underside of the roof?
No. It shows what’s on the outside. Leaks, damp timbers and condensation frequently show first from inside, so we check the loft too where we can.
Does the report include photographs?
Yes. Photos are taken throughout the survey, and the report uses them to show each finding alongside our recommendations.
Will the drone film my neighbours?
The camera stays on your roof. We only survey what the owner has asked us to. A word with next door beforehand is a good idea.
What we look for on each type of roof
Steep slate and tile slopes
Widespread slipping on slate usually means nail fatigue. Close-up photos show how widespread it is.
Valleys and parapet gutters
A butterfly roof drains to a central valley gutter. It’s almost impossible to see from ground level, but a drone shows it clearly.
What happens if roof problems are left?
Photographing a roof from the air does not touch it. Fragile slates and tiles stay as they are, so you see the roof exactly as it is. Matching old materials, like handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.
Prices start from £150, inc. VAT, for a Basic Survey. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400. You will know the price for your roof before booking.

Useful tips for Tylerscross property owners
A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:
- Expect us to rearrange if it is too windy or wet
- Keep pets indoors during the flight
- Expect a little longer if permission is needed
- Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
The Premium Survey report comes the same day. It includes the drone photos where a flight was possible.
Keep the roof space ventilated. Poor airflow lets condensation build up, and it’s something only an inside check will show. Make sure insulation doesn’t block the airflow.
What this survey can’t tell you
A survey is a close look at the roof, but it cannot do everything. The main limits are:
- A flight on a day when the weather is not safe
- Whether the roof structure meets design loads
- Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or email us and we will recommend the right survey before booking. What a survey covers and does not.
