Electronic leak detection in Fuller's End: what you get
ELD is a way of pinpointing breaches in a flat roof’s waterproofing membrane. It works with an electrical current that passes through the membrane only where there is a breach. That lets us locate holes that are too small to see so your roofer knows exactly where to repair. You get a written report with photos of each breach found. If you’ve noticed leaks through a flat roof with no obvious cause and leaks under green or ballasted roofs, a survey will tell you what’s going on.
Some older homes in villages like Fuller's End are listed or in a conservation area, which can shape what a new flat roof may look like. Check with the council before planning any change of material. Finding out what state the roof is in gives you the facts to plan with. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent.
Where we cannot see part of the flat roof membrane, the report says so. That way, it is clear what was covered and what wasn’t.

How we price electronic leak detection
Not every roof costs the same to survey, for these reasons:
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
- The use of thermal imaging or a drone
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
All our prices include VAT. We quote electronic leak detection for each roof, as the method and time depend on the roof. You will know the price for your survey before you book.
What to tell us when you contact us
Getting the details right at the start saves time. It is useful to include:
- The kind of building and roof involved
- Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
- Whether there’s a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
Our phone lines are open seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays. To book or ask a question, ring 07833 053749 or email us.
DIY checks: what’s safe
A lot can be seen from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
Why get it checked now?
Opening up a roof to hunt for a leak is disruptive. Electronic testing finds the hole first so your roofer knows where to work. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Fuller's End, driving rain gets into any weakness, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
To find out what your survey will cost, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and a few details. The price is agreed before a date is set.

Flat and commercial roofs around Fuller's End
About 4 miles north-east lies Horham Hall, a reminder of how long the area around Fuller's End has been built on. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters. Older buildings in Essex frequently have clay tiles and weatherboarding, with post-war and more recent estates making up much of the newer housing. Mixed in with those pitched roofs are plenty of flat ones, over rear extensions, dormers, garages and shops.
For site and facilities teams at buildings like Forest Hall School, schools and public buildings often have big flat roofs, and their outlets and upstands need regular checks. The streets around a church such as Church of St Mary the Virgin are often among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, the joins between later flat roofs and the old walls are where problems normally start. Landlords with a home close to Elsenham station may find that flat roofs over rear additions and dormers in rented property are worth checking between tenancies.

Fuller's End questions
Is Fuller's End within the area you cover?
We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Fuller's End?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.
How soon will I get the report?
Each package has its own report time. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. Mention any deadline when you book.
Do you need to get into the loft?
If the survey needs it and the loft space can be reached safely, yes. Please clear anything stored under the hatch, and if the loft can’t be reached safely, the report says so.
How long does electronic leak detection take?
It normally takes a length of time set by the size of the roof and how it’s built, and we’ll give you a guide when quoting.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. Access is agreed with you as you book.
What will the report tell me?
It sets out what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, backed by photos. It also says if any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, so you know exactly what was covered.

What else we do in Fuller's End
The survey, step by step
Before we start, tell us why you’ve booked: buying, a leak, storm damage, new work or just wanting to know where things stand. That way we can focus on what matters to you. The visit normally takes longer on a large roof than a small one, and the build-up of the roof makes a difference too. In a hamlet or village like Fuller's End, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- We ask about the roof, its age, its membrane and where leaks appear inside.
- The roof is assessed to see if electronic testing will work on it.
- We pick the low-voltage or high-voltage method that suits the roof.
- The roof is tested and any breaches are located.
- The breaches are recorded with photographs in a report for your roofer.
Before we arrive
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
- Tell us about parking before the day
- Check we can get to the back of the property
